About the artist, 

Hailing from Ballarat, Phoenix James has been immersed in music for as long as he can remember. Teaching himself to DJ at 15 with a pair of DDJ-200s, he’s since carved out a name for himself, landing sets at Turbo300, Levels, and the American Hotel, along with a feature mix for LMNK UK. With a love for deep, driving grooves across house, techno, and beyond, his selections are always dynamic and unpredictable—built to keep the energy high.

Producing for the past three years, Phoenix has explored a range of sounds, from house and deep house to UKG and techno. Now, with his first hardgroove track, he’s pushed himself further than ever, delivering a release that showcases his evolving style. Taking influence from names like Chris Stussy, Olav Basoski, Kettama, and IPC, he’s constantly refining his craft, blending inspirations to create something uniquely his own. Expect plenty more where this came from with a track he’s been working on for over 6 months so you can imagine the damage that will do.

Dundee DJ and producer Hannah Laing drops an addictive double single via her own doof label. Hannah unites with rhys from the sticks in the high-energy club heater ‘4am In A Rave’. The turbo-charged new single is a playful affair, as driving beats undercut sampled conversations from the rave, transporting the listener between the hypnotic rhythms of the dancefloor and the hazy glow of the smoking area. Founded in 2019 by Anetha, Mama Told Ya has quickly become a hub for experimentation and artistic expression. It's latest compilation, 'MTY-FEU - "Ils s’embrasèrent, réduits ensemble"' is the first & final opus in the VA's elemental series.

Naarm/Melbourne-based Luke Hovey's contribution to the VA is 'Guilty Pleasure', a track which does exactly that.

'Guilty Pleasure' is about as close to donk as you can get without being donk. Hovey is clearly doing everything he can to make bass face undeniable, a clear demonstration of where much of Australia's modern techno is headed.

'Guilty Pleasure' releases as a single this Friday, March 28, with 'MTY-FEU - "Ils s’embrasèrent, réduits ensemble"' releasing Friday, April 11 via Mama Told Ya's Bandcamp on digital and a limited series of vinyls.
