@silviakastel is an Italian musician who explores the outer limits and inner workings of no wave, industrial, dub, extreme electronics, free rock and improvisation. She’s been a fixture of the underground since her teens – as part of Control Unit with Ninni Morgia, and collaborating with Smegma, Factrix, Gary Smith, Aki Onda and Gate. Through her own label, Ultramarine, she has released music by Raymond Dijkstra, Blood Stereo and Bene Gesserit. Her contemporary sound focuses on the interaction between kinetic synthesis, the human voice and natural elements such as birdsong, and how those structures can coexist and interact with each other. Following her three solo releases to date – 2011’s Love Tape, 2015’s Voice Studies 20, and 2016’s The Gap – Kastel is due to release her Air Lows album on gothic downbeat label Blackest Ever Black in January 2018. For her Choice Mix, Kastel dives into new age – traditional Japanese music revisited through electronics, choirs, and mindful-playful club music.

Been going to Glasto since I was 11 years old so to finally play there, age 55, was a real nice thing. The rules for daytime sets at the notorious Maceo’s arrive in an email proclaiming “NO BANGERS” under pain of death, so I did just that: low, slow and mellow, with a handful of acts playing the main fest that weekend thrown in and one for Philippe Zdar too.

That was only the beginning of the fun. Just when you think this ride couldn't get any more wild, keep listening for the next ridiculous (maybe better: ridonkulous) edit or unthinkable mashup.
