Photo: Calixa Lavallée 1842-1891, born Calixte Lavallée, was a French-Canadian-American musician and Union officer during the American Civil War who composed the music for O Canada, which officially became the national anthem of Canada in 1980. During the later years of his life, Lavallée was the choirmaster at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston and he died in that city in 1891. As the result of the campaign by the Montréal based music director of the Victoria's Rifles, Joseph-Laurent Gariépy, his remains were returned to Montréal and reinterred at Côte-des-Neiges Cemetery in 1933.

This is a short piece by Canadian composer Alexis Contant, written  in 1900, originally for cello and later published in a version for violin. It was taken from  a compilation of little known Canadian works, edited by The Canadian Musical Heritage Society.

This is an unfinished work by Healey Willan, dated 1922. The work's inscription reads, "And evening, full of the linnet's wings" is taken from Yeat's poem, The Lake Isle of Innisfree. This work was brought to our attention by F.R.C. Clarke, a Kingston Organist, Composer and Professor/Director at the Queen's University School of Drama and Music. We ended up playing all 3 of Willan's sonatas.
