Super-Sonic Jazz was the first album to be released on El Saturn Records, the label run by Sun Ra and his business partner Alton Abraham. Set up in 1955, they released their first singles, including a doo-wop group The Cosmic Rays and the Arkestra's Saturn, at the beginning of 1956, and had recorded the whole of their first album by the end of the year, to be released in March 1957. El Saturn is now considered, along with Charles Mingus and Max Roach’s Debut label and Harry Partch’s Gate 5 label, "one of the very first and most active artist-owned record labels." Often pressed in editions of 75 — sometimes as few as 20 were made for specific concerts — the records would be manufactured using local black businesses, and often put together in Abraham's own home.

John Zorn, inspirado en la obra de William Blake —en un álbum que es uno de los más bellos en varios años—, crea un sonido realmente encantador —brillante y lleno de esperanza— de una manera que nunca pensamos, muchos años atrás, que íbamos a escuchar del saxofonista. A Vision in Blakelight (2012) continúa línea musical argumentativa iniciada dos años atrás con The Goddess. Music for the Ancient of Days (2010), y seguida por In Search of the Miraculous (2010), At the Gates of Paradise (2011) y The Gnostic Preludes. Music of Splendor (2012). Esto cuatro son tan recomendables como del que hablamos.

La música, como ha sido la regla en los últimos años, salvo excepciones, no cuenta con instrumentación propia de John. Ella la deja a cargo de un grupo que cuenta con John Medeski en piano y órgano, Kenny Wollesen en el vibráfono, Carol Emanuel en la armónica, Trevor Dunn en el bajo, Joey Baron en la batería y Cyro Baptista en la percusión.

El sonido es muy cálido y orgánico —una sombra del modo minimalista de Terry Riley, pero más lírico en su amplitud— con una calidad abierta, una floración maravillosa que se descubre desde el principio.

Zorn arregla, compone y conduce la grabación. Los títulos incluyen: "An Island In The Moon", "The Hammer Of Los", "The Prophecy", "Marriage of Heaven & Hell", "Night Thoughts", and "When The Morning Stars Sang Together".

Berserk! Is the name of the new band / collective formed by Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari and Lorenzo Feliciati.

The music of Berserk! stretches between jazz-rock, free jazz, crooning, rock and prog-rock and lush cinematic arrangements to generate a musical soundscape wholly unheard of. Berserk! brings together a collective of creative and heterogeneous musicians with the explicit aim of exploring the dark side of jazz.

The first-ever collaboration between Italian bassist-composer Lorenzo Feliciati and Italian vocalist-multi-instrumentalist-sonic provocateur Lorenzo Esposito Fornasari (aka LEF) defies easy categorization as it awakens the senses. At times darker than the Grim Reaper and heavier than the soundtrack for the Apocalypse, it can turn on a dime and swing insistently, or wail mournfully, or float mysteriously.

The two are joined by internationally renowned Italian trombonist Gianluca Petrella, pianist and keyboard player Jamie Saft (Metallic Taste Of Blood, John Zorn), Italian Sax legend Sandro Satta, guitarist Eivind Aarset (Nils Petter Molvaer group) drummer Pat Mastelotto (XTC, King Crimson, Stickmen), italian pianist extraordinaire Fabrizio Puglisi, and italian drum-meisters Cristiano Calcagnile (working with Gianluca Petrella) and Simone Cavina (Junkfood).

Is it rock? Is it jazz? Is it ambient, avant garde, opera or something else? Regardless of tags, the music that Feliciati and Fornasari make together as Berserk! on their self-titled debut stands an imposing manifesto. It is an iron fist upside the head of complacency.
