This October, Get Physical Music will inaugurate their Detroit Gets Physical series, curated by DJ One Five. Before then, the label look to release a series of taster EPs, with the first one coming from Laurent Chanal.
Chanal's roots date back to lighting up clubs with tech house sounds in the mid-nineties. Since then he has gone on to international acclaim as both Petit Ange and under his own name with music on labels such Resopal and more. His colourful sounds owe a lot to Detroit and he has had support for them from greats like Sasha and Laurent Garnier.
The superbly compelling 'Carbon' is a deep, rolling track where house meets techno. The main chord riff loops hypnotically as the smooth drums suck you in. Lithe, textured synths join the mix later on to lift the energy and ensure the club goes wild.
Remixing is UK mainstay Vince Watson, who has been a pivotal artist since the 90s. His connection with Detroit runs deep having released on vital Motor City labels like Planet E and 430 West. He serves up two separate remixes, Part 1+2, as well as combining both into a third version. Each one brings more intensity as the pressure builds through sleek synths and rumbling drums. A raw sense of futuristic machine soul and grainy atmosphere defines each track and truly conveys that authentic Detroit sound.
The fantastic Carbon EP joins the dots between European and Mid-Western sounds in stylish new ways.

DESCRIPTION:
Hijacked Records Detroit’s new release come from yet another, really talent French producer, Laurent Chanal, under the pseudonym “Lo-Tech.” The “Twisted Fish” ep offers up three tracks exhibiting the deep side of techno balanced against the uplifting, resulting in an almost therapeutic sounding release. We open with the title track, “Twisted Fish.” This track sets out a sort of laid-back dystopian type feel against a classic snare and clap pattern. At about the one minute mark Laurent introduces some tripped out harmonic sounding synths. As the intensity is really building the break down comes in at minute 2:52. He counters the darker atmosphere he’s built up with a beautiful pause. At minute 3:43 the track is in full swing again yet maintains the ethereal aura introduced at the break down, carrying the track through until the end. This is a great piece.

The next track is called “Club Star JS.” This piece also has a bit of a slower or laid-back take on the percussion. Piano sounding chords are prominently featured with a sort of subdued acid type melody running throughout. At minute 1:50 beautiful synths pour in and create that comforting, warm feeling that puts the smile on your face when you’re dancing. This is the type of track that’s also great for grabbing your headphones and going for a walk to clear your head. Good medicine.

The final track on this ep is “Cool it Down.” This track also incorporates the warm and welcoming ambience but this time in an almost distant, far-away sense. The beat is more house than techno on this track but again, with a slower take on it. It has a more relaxed feeling to it. At minute 2:32 Laurent’s synth work takes a more melodic turn. This track is just straight good for the soul. Laurent’s production is really quite good quality. What stands out for us, is that his ability to exercise restraint is very clear, which took these tracks in an interesting direction; something we’ve never heard before, and likely something most people couldn’t reproduce. We’re proud to present his work and look forward to what else he has in store.

Born in Brooklyn in 1957, Tony Humphries began collecting records at age ten. Humphries' passion for music was encouraged from a very early age. His father, Rene, had emigrated from Colombia some years earlier, before going on to lead the New York Combo. Rene "El Grande Combo" Humphries, as he was known, performed alongside salsa performers including Tito Puente.


Humphries began DJing at college and got his first professional gig in 1981 at the then-new New York station KISS-FM following a chance encounter with Shep Pettibone. His big break was in 1982, when he was asked by Shep Pettibone to fill in for a mix show on WRKS 98.7 Kiss-FM] in New York.[5] Soon afterward, he was a regular contributor of the station’s mastermixes—extended and remixed versions of popular songs—a process that had been pioneered on the station earlier by Pettibone. During most of the 1980s until 1994, Humphries had a mix show that aired on Kiss-FM every Friday and Saturday night.

In 1982, Humphries got a residency at the Club Zanzibar, in Newark, New Jersey, home of the so-called Jersey Sound
Humphries and Club Zanzibar, alongside the Paradise Garage and its resident DJ Larry Levan, are considered to be the main driving forces behind the creation of garage house music.....

Laurent Chanal 
French DJ and composer Laurent Chanal started his career in 96 mixing progressive trance and tech-house in local clubs. In 2000 he joined the Ultimae record label and started composing a few years later in collaboration with Vincent Villuis the label owner.
He then joined Phil Rodriguez with whom he set up 2 Guy’s on the Rock. Their first EP ‘Eskomo’, released on Pulp Recordings label and remixed by Mashtronic and the original track features on Carl Cox’s DVD and received warm support from John Digweed, Markus Schulz, Sasha and Pole Folder to name but a few. 
In 2009 he started to compose solo and changed his “Petit Ange” moniker to Laurent Chanal. His first tracks were signed to Get Physical Music, Brique Rouge, Tronic Music, Reworck, Inclusif...
Laurent is a composer in several facets because he also turns on another more techno project in color of Detroit, he can make a mixer of sounds progressive and melodic. 
His first EP "Twisted Fish" is signed on the US label Hijacked Records Detroit and is already supported and played by Laurent Garnier.
Laurent is still a very active Dj on the international scene sharing the stage with Sasha, John Digweed, Maceo Plex, Anthony Pappa, Stefano Greppi…Each mix, each composition is a sensual and surprisingly powerful mix of Techno, progressive house and deep house grooves infused with layers of hypnotic atmospheres.
