F.O.G. stands “Force of Gravity” which is the name of my label and live band and what I call my close group of friends. This song is dedicated to the support they’ve all shown me over the years through my musical and personal journeys. Specifically, in this song, I talked about how empowered I felt during a trip to Los Angeles with members of the band. The use of “gravity” as a metaphor represents how we “hold each other down” much like gravity holds us down to the earth, how gravity pulls objects towards each other.

Zodiac is a personal think piece about the current boom in astrology. It has been around for years, but recently I’ve seen a lot of my peer group talk heavily about astrology. While it may be a helpful guide for life, I find some people speaking about it as a deterministic thing, as if the stars control our actions, as if they’re predetermined. This song is about me declaring that it’s not about your star sign, it’s your mindset that determines your life. I’d written this song to a few different backing tracks and even recorded to a track that Toonz, the producer of my song Trip, sent me, but after recording I felt something didn’t match so I remade the entire beat that you hear now around the vocals.

This song was written and recorded with frequent collaborator and producer Toonz in his father’s basement in early 2019. It was our first studio session together and I spent about 3 or 4 hours writing the lyrics. The title is inspired by Drake’s “Dreams Money Can Buy” but I wanted to discuss the things that money couldn’t buy me like happiness, peace of mind, and loyalty. I was very satisfied with the recording when it was done, but again I felt the lyrics didn’t match the production as much as I wanted it to. So, what did I do? I shapeshifted that joint. I reproduced the track to what you hear now, but the coolest part about the song is the “sample.” I created an entirely different song in the style of The Stylistics soul genre. That’s actually me singing the vocals on the “sample” as well. Once that song was done, I flipped that into the sample and programmed the drums and 808 to finish the track. I utilized this same creation process of creating a separate song and sampling it on my other release “Be Right There.”
