At The Water’s Edge

Grant Muller's "Broke Beat" really spoke to me: The odd meter, the
repetitions in odd lengths... it is right up my alley. Not to mention that the drumming is very compelling.

I wanted to add something that felt like the two of us were in the room, having practiced the 23/8 beat together, and then the fractured opening. The mallet-esque part I added emphasizes both aspects of the original composition, restarting when the drum line restarts, and following the 8+5+7+3 structure used for 23/8.

Muller's mix of his own part against a filtered skewed version of it is quite beautiful, so I tried to leave space for that to come through when it happens.

Only alteration to the original track was to pan it slightly left.

I had no intention of this being my breakthrough into the Nerdcore scene but it just developed in that way as time went on! With that being said Sung Jin Woo and I have some similarities which then birthed this song! I would like to add that 80 percent of the lyrics were already done about a year ago, so when I was finishing that song I kept laughing at how I could've gone way harder.
