Catching Flies - real name George King - returns with his new single ‘GLY,’ a slice of uplifting, sophisticated dance music that sits in the sweet spot between dancefloor and headphones. It’s highly textured, deeply melodic and effortlessly marries live instrumentation (guitars, harps, a string quartet) with warm electronic beats. A remix package of the single will follow in May 2021 with remixes from British dance-pop stalwarts Hot Chip and Ninja Tune’s DJ Boring.

‘GLY’ marks Catching Flies’ first artist release since his critically acclaimed 2019 debut album ‘Silver Linings.’ Future Music described it as “A brilliantly eclectic record…a moving journey that will last long in the memory”, Clash Magazine praised the LP’s “killer beats” and “artfully orchestrated introspection”, whilst London In Stereo mentioned it’s “exceptional production”. Other press coverage for the album included The Guardian, Complex, Nowness, i-D Magazine, Dazed & Confused, Electronic Sound and The Line of Best Fit. Artist support for ‘Silver Linings’ came from the likes of Bonobo, Jungle, Loyle Carner, George Fitzgerald and Lane 8. He toured the album performing sold out headline Live shows throughout the UK, Europe, Asia and North America, as well as DJ shows at Bonobo’s ‘OUTLIER’ event in the US. Catching Flies also does soundtrack work for film and video games, and has recently been nominated for a BAFTA.

You might not know the name Scott Nelson – or Dejector – just yet. The London-based, Newcastle-born producer kicked off the project when the pandemic hit in 2020, stepping away from his previous role as a session musician and exploring his own sound. Taking influence from the textural electronics of Four Tet and Burial, he also takes his production cues from the likes of Jamie xx, Falty DL and more, creating something not far off the post-dubstep era of the mid-2000s. ‘Take Me There’, which we’re premiering below, is Dejector’s debut track, born out of the struggle of last year but with an optimistic take on the earth-shattering events. “‘Take Me There’ was a way of finding solace in a time of lockdowns – exploring the space between the mournful and the uplifting,” Dejector says. “There was something so beautiful and vulnerable about the vocal sample – so adding this wistful piano part, and crafting the rest of the song just became a way to amplify that initial vulnerability. The bursts of noise in the track are sampled from voice notes from friends, or field recordings from my day-to-day life. Obviously no one could even really tell, but having those in there makes it a more personal, connected piece of work for me; having those bits of my life tucked inside it.”

Kiwi duo 2XM make a welcome return to Eton Messy Records this August with their ‘Inperspect’ EP.

2XM is callobrative guise of the respectively New Zealand and Australia based Liam and Ben Murray. The pair have been creating unique blends of dance music since late 2016, exploring a multitude of sonics, stemming from their wide variety of training and interest in jazz, classical, hip-hop and electronic music. Recent times have seen the pair unveil a string of material via the likes of Eton Messy, Sengiley Records and GLBDOM, adding to their already extensive list of releases with Slothboogie, Café del Mar, Dansu Discs, Bolting Bits, Of Leisure and many more.
