A while ago, I was asked (I think by the Chineurs crew) to record a mix featuring 7 of my favorite tracks. I recently noticed it had disappeared, so here it is again. The goal isn’t really to surprise or to make you discover anything new (though who knows), but simply to share some of the tunes I’ve played the most and that have inspired me a lot as a producer. Soma proudly present the 2nd instalment of the Transmissions series. After the successful start to the series in early 2015, this V/A EP sees 3 relative newcomers to the Techno scene come together to represent their own sounds on Soma. With the high volume of top quality productions Soma sees every day, but are unable to fit into what is a jam packed schedule for single artist release, the Transmissions brand jumped in and allowed the cream of the crop to be showcased under one powerful EP. 

Italian producer Luca Agnelli opens up Transmissions Part 2 with his track Long Delay. Already a firm favourite in his homeland, Luca definitely looks like he’s ready to take on the world with his debut on Soma. Dubbed out stabs give a light quality to the track but with Luca’s thundering drum work out, it certainly makes for one peak time burner. 
We also welcome another young Italian producer, Drafted, who has impressed with releases on MM Audio and also the amazing Balans series. He steps up next with his effort, Escluded, which shows real promise on the production front as he rips out a nicely crafted piece of work cutting quite the groove, backed with a subtly modulating synth hook that gives the track life. 
The mysterious SLV rounds off the EP with the almost aptly named, Transition. A looped out, hypnotic vocal grinds across sub heavy kicks which have been expertly lined up against some thrashing percussive elements creating a grooving, solid dance floor killer.

Synonymous with Detroit, Techno, and Tresor, Scan 7 have remained protagonists of the Berlin-Detroit axis since it was first forged in the sweaty obsidian of the club’s original Wertheim vault home. Now, over 20 years later, the masked techno collective pay tribute to the triptych’s matted histories on ‘The Resistance EP’.

With identifiable nods to Scan 7’s Underground Resistance affiliations – the label that launched the group, and whose militaristic and political philosophies can be found littered throughout their discography – the EP begins with quintessential Detroit strings and groove before delving into darker techno territory. On the A-side, “The Resistance” offers an uplifting and delightfully nostalgic jaunt through dance music past, using all those favourite and immortal house tropes to deliver instant gratification. Meanwhile, the B-side shows off Scan 7 as masters of warm, yet shadowy techno – plus their trademark drum work – in the hypnotic “Why Not?” and driving, basement-ready “In & Out Of The Groove”. 

Alongside many outings on Tresor’s renowned compilation series, Scan 7 produced two albums for the label – ‘Dark Territory’ in 1996, followed up by ‘Resurfaced’ in 1999 – before leader TrackMasta Lou’s Cratesavers Muzik took over as the group’s primary recording outlet. ‘The Resistance EP’ is a welcomed return to Tresor from one of its stalwart artists, and paves the way for a retrospective compilation on 20 years of Scan 7, due out at the close of the year.
