The Drumcode A-Sides compilation is quickly becoming synonymous within the techno world as a go to compilation for the hottest tracks that are deservedly A-side material in their own right. Each specific track has it own unique character that brings an outstanding and electrifying aspect to the compilation that as a whole makes it something extremely special. Mixing both highly experienced and new artists has helped to bring a new dimension to the compilation that makes it such a special array of tracks.

2015 will see German techno mainstay Stephan Bodzin ready to unleash his next full-length musical vision on the world. Entitled “Powers of Ten”, the 10-track album will land in June 2015 on his own Herzblut Recordings and provides another great insight into the melodically rich muscle mind of this modern great.
Says Stephan Bodzin of the LP: “Powers of Ten has been with me all my life and is named after a book that has been my background hiss, its confusing truth is my only real faith and its infinity shows me its finiteness. The album is about harmonies, melodies, rhythms. It is an homage to Bob Moog, full of techno beats and sounds and space and party and ecstasy and dancing and listening, and crying and feeling. It is a journey, a philosophy of life, a view of the world, a vague perception. It is my wife, my children, my family, my friends, my passion, my enemy, my greatest fulfillment, my fear, my deepest peace, my power, all my love.”
As such, this album is hugely personal and is filled with cerebral messages and well thought out concepts. All this shines through and makes it an all the more engaging listen from start to finish. Kicking off with the spine tingling chords and louche beats of ‘Singularity’ cuts like ‘Lila’ then continue to confirm that Stephan Bodzin has a classical understanding of melody that is way beyond your average.
‘Blue Giant’, ‘Wir’ and ‘Ix’ all manage to be uplifting and thoughtful at the same time as driven and groovy, whilst ‘Birth’ comes on with a hymnal high note, long tailed pads and subtly shifting beats. The ghostly grooves of ‘Zulu’ mark a majestic mid point to the album, which then continues to seduce with spiritual synths and more beautiful melodies on cuts like ‘Odyssee’ as well as the album’s standout title track.
Unfolding coherently and in soothing fashion, this album once again proves that few producers in the modern world have a knack for melody and an ear for sonic ingenuity quite like Stephan Bodzin.

MFRR127  - NAOME Remixes // out 27/07/2015

Back in February, My Favorite Robot released an excellent full length album from accomplished DJ and producer Andrew Grant in his Naome guise. It proved a treasure trove of hits for dancers and DJs alike, and now the Canadian label revisit it for some expertly enlisted remixes. Speaking Minds, System of Survival, Nitin and Daniel Kyo all step up and breath plenty of their own unique character into the still stunning source material. Speaking Minds is the union of Simone Sinatti and Marco Paladin, an Italian pair that has released on this label before now. Their version of 'Kosmatic' is a slow burning, spiritually arresting track that is epic in the most reserved of ways. With slithering synth lines and reflective chords it lulls you into a trance and sooth your mind with its lush sense of musicality. System of Survival is another Italian pair, this time made up of Alex Carpentieri and Pietro De Lisi. They are veterans of labels like Get Physical and BPitch Control and their remix of Great Escape feat. Ony is a groovy, organic affair with warm chords, romantic vibes and loose limbed precision in its bones. Whispered vocals add a steamy sexiness and it's a standout track as a result. And so to Nitin, a key member of the MFR family and a revered talent who also lights up his No 19 Music label which he co-owns with Art Department's Jonny White. His revision of 'Wherewe' feat. Nanni is a lumpy and bumpy deep house roller with smeared chords, a sense of late night laziness to it and a wealth of human chords that strike right at your heart. It's magical and memorable in equal measure. Last but not least, Spaniard Daniel Kyo has emerged as a fine modern day beat maker thanks to outings on Poker Flat and Sincopat, as well as for his charismatic DJ sets along side the likes of Carl Craig and Larry Heard as resident at Minicab in his native Valencia. He has also headlined places like Panorama Bar in Berlin so is very much an ascending 2015 star. He tackles 'Spacestation' feat. Symbol and flips it into a gurgling, slow mo, no wave disco track with ticking arps, sticky drums and dreamy, drifting vocals that are sure to soundtrack many a great summer party. This is a fantastic package that not only reminds us how great the originals were, but that also proves MFR has its finger on the pulse when it comes to talented remixes from around the world.

A true artist in every sense of the word, Layton Giordani stands firmly as one of the most popular tastemakers of techno’s new school, with his pioneering musical vision serving as a contemporary voice for the younger generation. Spending years acquiring knowledge from musical greats, the 28 year old possesses a wealth of experience far beyond his years and has now undeniably earned his rank in the upper echelon of techno. With a repertoire that knows no bounds, the dexterous New Yorker has explored a new dimension of scope with each passing year, nurturing a monumental discography that echoes staunch dedication to his craft. Giordani’s palpable successes can be largely credited to his extensive stock of knowledge, garnered through an insatiable work ethic and years spent earning his keep in the industry. Solely focused on his passion for music from the age of just 13, Giordani’s path forever changed at 19 years old after watching Danny Tenaglia perform live at Pacha NYC. Deeply inspired by the formative experience, Layton began to master his craft behind the decks, landing a pivotal residency at Brooklyn’s Output NY that would consequently steam-roll his career into quick maturity. News of the untapped star’s fresh sensibilities circulated and in 2017, Giordani erupted onto the scene with his aptly-named debut album contribution to Drumcode in the form of Where It Begins.
