Welcome. I am Lazarus.Black, an author of fine fiction and non-fiction based in the Seattle area. I, my wife, and two children, manage a charcuterie of small pets at the edge of a forest. It hasn't always been this way. Having lived in the midwest, New York City, and Florida, and traveled frequently to Southern California for both work and pleasure, I strive to learn from and write stories about the breadth of human experience.

When May Ling inherits a family curse, an ancient enemy, and a 75-ton Temple Bell, every one of her problems simply gets worse, as an ancient evil threatens the world with Truth and May's lies may be the only power that can save us.

May Ling’s mundane world is about to explode, and all because of one Bell.

When an ancient goddess appears in Atlanta to tear the world apart with the Truth, it awakens May to the magic world and the power inherent in lies. May’s life is chaos. She is 23 years old and lonely with delinquent child-siblings, two spiteful aunts, mountains of debt, even more bills in the future, and at the end of her best years as an escort and thief. The last thing she needs are new visions and powers. Revelations just make her life worse. More responsibilities mean more chaos and more work.

So, she amasses a found-family of misfits from the fringes of Atlanta to survive it together: Bison is a giant afraid of themself, Cookie’s afraid of the world, Benji is a monk in name only leading a band of like-minded brothers, and Kate and Ricardo work at opposite poles with May playing both sides from the middle.

In the ultimate battle between good and evil, truth and lies, youth and wisdom, human and not, one single moment of May’s life will define the future of reality. Will or won’t the Bell ring? And what might happen if it does?

Hi! I'm Lazarus Black, an author of Fantasy and Science Fiction and every blend in between.
I have been a professional creative my entire life and live in the PNW with my famous wife, two incredibly talented children, and a couple of tiny panthers. 

This one is Bennett. We haven't agreed upon who is who's henchman, so you are free to guess.

Drawing inspiration from the nuances of human experiences we all share - hopes and dreams and the eternal pursuit of happiness - I hope to touch readers' hearts and minds in Urban Fantasy, Fantasy, and Science Fiction.

Lazarus Black is an American author of genre fiction living under the shadow of a Pacific Northwest volcano with three Goddesses, his wife and two daughters.

“Psychic Poker” is Lazarus’s first sale, but hardly his last. It juxtaposes poker, the synthesis of probability and human behavior, with psychic powers, the solution to both probability and the chaos of free will. What if every player is psychic? What if no player has an advantage? What if their lives are at stake? But the strength of the story is in the reluctant main character: Tyson Young, a middle-aged Aussie with an acute wit.
Lazarus writes from life. His stories are inspired by the diverse communities he has lived in, plus friends and family across the globe. He specifically attacks stereotypes and reinvents tropes to reflect authentic experiences that are sometimes stranger than fiction. He once earned a free funeral until the mortician learned his name was Lazarus and a good laugh was had by all (bystanders included). A true lover of learning, Lazarus has traversed North America dozens of times, has been a professional artist, advertising creative, software developer, database designer, epigrapher, executive, educator, inventor, game designer, pool hustler, heathen clergyman, machinist’s apprentice, glass blower, scholar, actor, many other roles, and now published author of fiction.

With over 15 years of experience as a freelance illustrator, Bea works in a variety of art styles.
