The Assignment: Record the first third of a trio.

Please note: While this project is the start of a three-part sequence that will unfold over the course of three consecutive weeks, you can participate in any or all three of those parts. 

Step 1: This week’s Junto project is the first in a sequence intended to encourage and reward collaboration. You will be recording something with the understanding that it will remain unfinished for the time being. Your part will be done, but more will happen. Read on.

Step 2: The plan is for you to record a short and original piece of music using any instrumentation of your choice. Conceive the piece as something that leaves room for something else — other instruments, other people — to join in. (Keep in mind that your piece resulting from this week’s project will be panned to the left in the second and third weeks of this sequence.)

Step 3: Record a short piece of music, roughly two to three minutes in length, as described in Step 2. 

Step 4: This is important: be sure to make your track downloadable because it may be used by someone else in the next Disquiet Junto project, and the one after that.

Disquiet Junto Project 0698: Second Third
The Assignment: Record the second third of a trio.

For the second track, I worked with a solo that no one else had used. I liked https://soundcloud.com/meccaniche-del-suono/first-tongue-ram-disquiet0697?in=disquiet/sets/disquiet-junto-project-0697 by Meccaniche del Suono, because it somehow talked to me and seemed wonderfully inaccessible. Something I would fail at.

I added more layers of strings and flutes, some electronics and some ambience. I did all this by what felt right, hence the title, which may of course be a mistake. Thanks to Meccaniche del Suono / Marco Marongiu for his track!

The Assignment: Record the final third of a trio.

I just wanted to play bass on something because it felt like it had been a while since I picked up my bass.  The third part of this project always felt like the right time for basslines too.  I don't really like when the low end is panned hard left or right to be honest.  It feels unbalanced to me.  Anyway, Torpid and Coraline's beautiful piece from last week really stuck out to me so it was an easy choice.  I liked writing counter point to Torpid's fills at the end of the measure.  Hope I didn't funk it up too much

In “before you were or any hearts to beat,” Chair House captures the ephemeral pulse arising from stillness, crystallizing it into notes. The transparent touch reminiscent of post-rain air gently caresses past memories. As the title suggests, this melody preserves the warmth of days when hearts still raced, instantly transporting listeners back to their former selves—where improvisational inspiration and meticulous sound design weave the unique Chair House soundscape.
