Wai Mei Wong is a former early childhood educator living in Toronto, Canada. Her picture book Hello, Dark was shortlisted for the 2022 IODE Jean Throop Book Award, and chosen for the 2022 CCBC Spring Best Book for Kids & Teens Selection. She enjoys poetry, nature walks and funny movies.

She started writing Haiku in October 2022, after she became curious about this deceivingly simplistic form of poetry. Her inspiration comes mostly from her experience or the stories from people close to her.

One of the most influencial modern Japanese writers, Natsume Soseki’s literary career started in 1903, with a series of haiku and renga published on various literary magazines. Between 1900 and 1903 he studied at the UCL in London, but this proved to be quite a dramatic experience for the young Soseki:

“The two years I spent in London were the most unpleasant years in my life. Among English gentlemen I lived in misery, like a poor dog that had strayed among a pack of wolves.“

Despite this, when Soseki returned to Japan he exploded into prolific writing activity.

(dispersed signal) versions fragment the original material through granular time-warping, scattering its rhythmic core into drifting pulses and textured echoes. Like a fading transmission from deep space, these pieces unravel slowly, leaving behind only traces of their origin.
