Today we're delighted to introduce the dream pop fuzz of Londoners Worst Place.

Having formed in early 2016, Worst Place have spent several months propping up basement bills, sharing a smattering of psych-tinged jams and receiving support from 6 Music's Tom Robinson. With the weather's poor attempt at convincing us that it is indeed summer, Worst Place are perfectly poised to bring the rays. In 'Dreamer' Worst Place deliver three minutes of perfect shoegazing pop taking shimmers of inspiration from Alvvays knack for an earworm chorus and Fear of Men's ability to enshroud something slightly darker amongst perfectly pleasant fuzz pop. 

For the artwork the band decided to create a classic American-style postcard with each of the maps inside the letters representing places that they grew up or have links to. Worst Place will be celebrating the launch of the single with a release party at The Shacklewell Arms this Friday. Lost Map are excited to welcome latest signings Bas Jan, the London experimental post-punk trio built around the remarkable and distinctive voice and songs of multi-instrumentalist and composer Serafina Steer. A brilliant, bonkers, shape-shifting song about the weird tedium of a text message spat (“Drop it? Why don’t you drop it!”), Argument – available to stream and share now – is the first single to be revealed from Bas Jan’s forthcoming debut album Yes I Jan, due early 2018. The track was produced by Leo Abrahams. Serafina is one of the latest winners of the prestigious Paul Hamlyn Foundation’s Awards for Artists.

Blue suitcase is a track that was mostly written over the last few days of summer, inspired by events, discussions and 'philosophical' musings that took place in the studio during the recording of the album. We wanted to completely let loose with the track, combining psych- garage wig outs with elements of our favourite disco and dance boogie tracks, such as Luther Davis Group's 'You Can Be A Star' and Rita Lee's 'Chega Mais'. The lyrics also fuse together an anecdotal story of spotting an unaccompanied case on a train platform, and the allegorical discussions and theories that followed. This included topics ranging from Schrodingers Cat to James and the Giant Peach!

We're delighted to be welcoming Lazy Day to the family with the brilliant Weird Cool. Originally the solo bedroom project of Tilly Scantlebury, they have since grown into a fully fledged dreamy grunge pop quartet. Weird Cool follows a succession of absolutely solid singles and more recently an EP which caught the attention of Lauren Laverne, Steve Lamacq and Gideon Coe amongst others. Lazy Day are playing some live shows in the support of the single (out 9th March)

Berlin by way of Norway multi-instrumentalist and producer Farao has signed to Western Vinyl.  To celebrate this announcement, we’re making her new song “The Ghost Ship” available. 

“‘The Ghost Ship’ is about losing a sense of direction, your fate being driven by something out of your control,” explains Kari Jahnsen, a/k/a Farao. “Seeing the end of a relationship as an empty vessel, floating endlessly and eternally into nothingness.”

Farao’s 2015 debut album Till It’s All Forgotten and its songs earned her press attention from outlets including Pitchfork “Jahnsen's work defies categorization and commodification at every turn”, The FADER, NPR Music, Noisey “gorgeous folk melodies and lush vocals”, Vanity Fair, Paste, Clash, and The Line Of Best Fit. She has also performed at a number of UK and European festivals such as Green Man, End of the Road, Øya, Roskilde, BY:LARM, and Eurosonic.

Farao - "The Ghost Ship"

As we digest our tensions, world war four looms, it’s hard to say when, it’s hard to remember our simple rituals, this is in essence, an advertisement, another slogan to process. It’s true what they say, we did invent the words Pet Shimmers, we chose them to be together, it is never said, but it is known. Here it comes, saddles ablaze, our second offering comes in collaboration vibes with our favourite space cadet seahorses from London, Goat Girl, we mashed it through BeepBox, added some rotten guitar mulch, pulped it up a bit and this unusual child was birthed. As well as featuring Goat Girl, Caelia Lunniss (Spindle Ensemble) dressed the track up in comely draping strings whilst Malthouse alchemist Dom Mitchison (Spectres) mixed these glacial gurt ingredients together and voilà, Feels Hz.
