Our third release of 2024 sees the arrival of Neo Dymium, on the label.

Four metallic shards of electronic music . Hoovering up influences from electro, techno, IDM, trance, dub and breaks. This vortex of noise pulls and pushes the listener in all manner of directions, as it spirals around the speakers.

Dense and precise rhythms climb their way over and under the stocky bass and razor sharp synth lines, on the more club orientated tracks. Gritty but emotive.

While the closing track brings down the curtain with a textured and glitch laden thump. Chewed up soundscapes fusing with murky beats. Squeaking and squirming its way through a dark tunnel before finally twisting its way out to give us a corrosive finale and a hefty full stop on the debut of Neo Dymium.

The Surface Show celebrates music from Asia and Pacific so I'm playing one of my absolute favourite niche scenes for the show - footwork from Japan. 

I came across all this amazing sound/scene I guess around 2012/2013 thanks to the compilations below and I love it so much. So many amazing artists and so many different sounds and vibes - always super well produced, sometimes really fun and cute, super heavy, really smooth or delightfully weird. 

I'm nerding out hard about this sound in this mix, I hope you feel some of my excitement when you listen. :)

Although rhythmic and dance floor worthy, this track’s primary form takes on the immersion of a Transcendental Meditation. With a driving mantra present throughout, it works through different pockets of your mind; surfacing, making sense of and setting free buried thoughts, while always returning to the propulsive sedation of this motif.

Since debuting modestly in 2014 under the alias Kaboko, Lazy Pluto has juggled a diverse array of inspirations, including early-’80s funk and electro, art rock, raw and classicist house, and Dubstep, while putting a fresh spin on the forms to decayed, disorienting effect.

“Ambient music is something that can be used as a tool, I’ll often use ambient music for meditative purposes, you can create such an interesting emotional sensation with this genre, it’s beautiful and relatively unexplored.”
