On Oct. 22, 1965, President Lyndon B. Johnson signed the Highway Beautification Act. The law was an unprecedented effort by the Johnson administration, with Lady Bird Johnson putting it at the top of her agenda, to limit the billboards, outdoor advertising, and junkyards that threatened to spoil the raw beauty of America and its interstate highways.

President Johnson's Highway Beautification Act Signing Remarks - Oct. 22, 1965

Broadway actress Carol Channing Performs "Hello, Lyndon!" for President Lyndon B. Johnson. We believe this may be from a Jan. 17, 1967 dinner at the White House.

"Hello, Lyndon!" was President Johnson's 1964 campaign song. Liz Carpenter, Lady Bird Johnson’s Chief of Staff and Press Secretary and occasional speechwriter for President Johnson, adapted the “Hello, Dolly!” lyrics and penned the “Hello, Lyndon!” lyrics Carol Channing eventually sang.

Architect Gordon Bunshaft's plans for the LBJ Library did not originally include an Oval Office replica. On Oct. 10, 1968, President Johnson called Bunshaft and asked him to add an Oval Office after hearing the Oval Office replica at the Truman Library was popular with visitors.

President Johnson asks Architect Gordon Bunshaft to Add Oval Office to LBJ Library Plans

On Jan. 23, 1968, the USS Pueblo, a U.S. Navy intelligence ship, and its 83 crew members were attacked and captured by North Korea. On Jan. 26, 1968, President Johnson addressed the nation regarding the attack.
