For this 298th Premiere of 2021, we have a track by Canadian Producer "Ghoti" titled ‘Aneracam’ from his forthcoming EP "Embers" on the Canadian Label operated by Pete Grove : Woodwork Recordings.

Ghoti is Patrick Gostovic from Toronto. He’s a computer programmer, former teenage prog rock devotee, and current Joni Mitchell super-fan. Run that through a modular synth and the results are pretty much what you’d expect.

'Embers' marks the emphatic return of Ghoti. A scan through his back catalogue reveals a span of recorded and live material illustrating Patrick Gostovic's sense of abstract ideas constructed of deeply textured sounds. This new material is exactly this, while also exhibiting extreme precision and extended reach in dynamic expression using a palette of synth modules passionately combined over the past few years.

'Phractyl' is elastic glass, breathing and creaking under the strain of sequenced resonance and frequency modulation.

'Aneracam' carries the same self trans-formative characteristics in fractured breaks format reminiscent of Autechre. The spiky rhythms and squelches build and evolve under sharp, precision beats and a stabby organ synth.

The title track 'Embers' is a spacious dub techno cut that incorporates some beautiful pentatonic melodic composition and a stunning organic pluck sound all constructed on Ghoti's custom modular outfit.

'Levin' plays like a calm extension of 'Embers', expanding similar ideas over syncopated angular breaks.

'Bile' seems an advanced geometric continuation of Ghoti's experimental work from his 'Mr Sloth' EP. The beats and bass elements are scrunched and twisted through the duration, blurring the sense of time and continuity.

'Tfhoruere' falls further into the ambient realm as a clash of odd meters and uneven bar lengths converge over circular minimal rhythms. This collection is possibly Ghoti's best work to date and makes for a thrilling return to form as well as an exciting foray into strange new territory...

Alex Over continues to showcase his dynamic electronic sounds with 'The People,' a third fantastic release on his Perpetual Collective label. This new single comes hot on the heels of the first two EPs in the second half of 2021 and again confirms Over is hugely prolific while keeping quality levels high. For many years now, he has been deeply immersed in the scene as a remixer, host of the U-Turn podcast, and experimental producer who has shared stages with the likes of James Zabiela. His long-awaited debut album is scheduled for release in Summer 2022 but before that comes 'The People.' This new release has two distinctive sides: an experimental original more suited to home listening, and a club edit that caters more to DJs and dancers. 'The People' (Original Version) is a brilliantly heavy track with muscular drums stomping out the groove. Twisted synths, rugged hits and dark spoken words all add to the intensity as rave, techno, bass and more all collide thrillingly. The Club Edit has a variety of influences and a more bass-driven sound that makes it ideal for club nights. The drums will lock in any crowd while the haunting voices remain in place to inject constant dynamism. 'The People' is another superb addition to Over's ever-growing discography and one that highlights his constantly evolving style.

How can one keep itself intact? On his first release through 6 Plusten Records, Meduna insists on revisiting himself in search for an unknown sound. If on his previous two Eps, ‘Sanatório’, via Brazilian label Gop Tun, and ‘Casulo’ (self-released), he manifested more of a psychedelic and an acid approach to synthwave and synthpop, this time his distorted 808 beats and howling timbres translate to an electric atmosphere, opening for a broken or torn state, in a movement to let itself dismantle to, who knows, get rebuilt. ‘Desmantelo’ is composed by two tracks, “Nafiltida” and “Henxakake”, flanked by a remix by fellow Brazilian experimental artist Quizzik.

Meduna is the solo project of Ramiro Galas, a Brasilia-based electronic music producer. Forged in difficult times, periods that often come and go, Meduna, named after an old sanatorium from Ramiro’s hometown, started as a creative self-storage for confusing emotions transformed into art. After a while it took shape and, what once served as medication, became sustenance. Nowadays, to invest in this project in search for such a personal sound, is one of the goals of this young musician, who is also part of the duos Forró Red Light and Pílula Project.
