When this first came out and you were in the process of going into that going away stuff my friends and i set up a mini night club hang out thing in our basement. We were gonna have a veckatimest cover painted. Thank you mr. murphy. 

Becoming your true self is a game often played in inches. Pockets of discovery and growth can appear behind the obscurity of frustration, leading to stretches of brilliance. It’s a visual Evan Brock ties to his latest project. Speaking about the records in its canon (debut Slowly Spiraling Towards the Light and the forthcoming I can feel an ending), “moments of Laika Songs are supposed to sound like when you look up through the trees and can see a little sky peeking through, and the light hits the leaves just right.”

The intersection of the natural and the artificial is where Laika Songs gains most of its inertia. Fragmented synth lines intermingle with everything from lumbering acoustic guitars to luxurious saxophones, bridging the gap between environmental zen and digital confusion. I can feel an ending expands the search for meaning first dispatched on the first LP by collaborating with a wide variety of musicians and friends to divine some clearer answers.

Emboldened by post-pandemic connectivity and the power of letting control fall to chance, Evan reached out to potential players with nothing but demos and deep knowledge of their musical histories.
