Battements means impact or movement of beats and the sound resulting from it; repeating collisions. It can be used for the wings flapping of a butterfly or a bird, the patter of rain at the window, or it can also be heartbeats. I wanted to express the series of shocks you’re receiving when in relation to others, the heartbeats trying to accommodate each other with difficulties; how you can be consumed in that if you don’t set boundaries but also the beauty  that sometimes presents itself from being burned in a relationship.
Layers of synthesizers and infinite delays accumulate until  they overflow at the end, creating an array of raw emotions, evoking the braziers of a burning forest; it’s like when you burn yourself by wanting to melt with another person.It also evokes a difficulty to accommodate to the world and other people, trying to cast in the mold, knowing that it gives you pain; from the beginning there is sadness and rage about being stuck.
Musically, the cello acts freely at first, surrounded by layers of drums complimenting each other; it’s  always improvised and when performed live we’ll never do it the same way,  it’s unpredictable, like our emotions. For this “battement” we wanted the cello to coalesce around the bass frequencies, whilst changing the range all the time throughout; never in the same register, imitating, with a classical music instrument, common patterns of synths movements : sometimes you don’t recognize the cello at all.
The aerial rings synths are made with my modular synthesizer that I played to make some “errors”. This exact sound is the result of improvisation, never the same in live.

Paolo had to be really precise in the cello playing at the end with the fast tempo towards the end (150 BPM). We wanted him to meet the arpeggiation of synths exactly in terms of rhythms; we almost abandoned this idea at one point because it was too fast and needed it to be reproducible many times, but in the end we did it. That track is also evoking a lot of the way we work together with Paolo as my cellist for 6 years. We want to experiment together with the cello sound, with new and sometimes difficult ideas when composing a track; sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn’t, and that’s a beautiful metaphor for a relationship.

And my first LP, LIBEROSIS, during the first half of 2024 !

I'll be touring again in 2024, bringing my studio to the stage, after a while without seeing the light of day.

A lot of French peers in this mix this year, but of course one or two obsessions that couldn’t leave far behind.

Budé Room immanquable puisqu'on reçoit Voltaire, afin de célébrer la sortie de son premier album "Echoes", sur Cod3 QR, ce même vendredi 20. Quelle meilleure façon de célébrer la musique ?

Révélé précisément sur Cod3 QR, le label de Laurent Garnier et Oliver Way, le producteur français Voltaire ambitionne de devenir une figure clé du renouveau de la musique électronique française avec ce premier album, qui marie tonalités électro, élégances techno, inspirations detroitesques parfaitement digérées et constructions mélodiques minutieuses.

Voltaire n'appartient pas au sérail, aux circuits préférentiels de l'univers électro : c'est un artiste qui a construit sa carrière par passion, après que la musique électronique lui soit tombée dessus un peu par hasard. Originaire d'une région éloignée des circuits privilégiés de l'univers électro, il a cultivé ses prédispositions en autarcie. Très vite, le musicien met à profit sa formation dans l'audiovisuel (où il travaille comme preneur de son et mixeur pour le cinéma, la publicité et la haute couture) pour élever la qualité artistique et technique de ses productions à un très haut niveau.

Voltaire utilise son approche perfectionniste de la musique pour créer un éclectisme riche en émotions, inspiré par des réminiscences des signatures historiques de la musique électronique, des pionniers de Détroit aux glorieuses décennies électro des années 2000 et 2010. Entre nostalgie et recherche de nouvelles formes d'électro contemporaine, qui doit concilier efficacité et inspiration : "J'aime toutes les facettes de la musique électronique et je veux rester ouvert à toutes les influences. Cette approche me permet aussi d'éviter de formater ma musique".
Ce vendredi soir, Budé Room reçoit donc Voltaire, ainsi qu'une belle bande d'amis autour de lui avec notamment Camille Rodriguez, Pedro Datana et Klaam !

Budé Room reçoit le label Void Records !

Void est un label basé à Paris qui se concentre sur la musique techno orientée vers le dancefloor [VR]. La branche du label Void X Series [VXS], lancée en avril 2022, est plus orientée minimal/tech-house/electro.

Le label est représenté par ses trois activistes Orphée, Any Yugël et Hiel Carter, mais constitue également un collectif avec une dizaine d'autres artistes.

ORPHEE :

Français d’origine mauritanienne installé à Paris, Orphée mixe et surtout collectionne la musique électronique depuis maintenant huit ans. Adepte d'une techno organique et mentale, il mixe et superpose ses tracks pour amener son audience à des moments d'extases collectives. Fidèle aux héritages de la scène, il manie les codes avec respect tout en les réinterprétant à l’aune de nouveaux langages sonores.

Orphée a déjà partagé l’affiche avec des Djs de renommée comme Stef Mendesidis, Nastia, Kaiser, Steffi, Sol Ortega, Ignez, Justyn Nell, François X, pour ne citer qu’eux. Il est cofondateur et directeur artistique du label et collectif Void Records, désormais solidement implanté dans le paysage des musiques électroniques en Île-de-France. Son projet musical n’est toutefois pas monolithique. Cet adepte des musiques électroniques dans toutes leurs diversités oscille avec finesse entre les styles et les genres. Et ce, toujours au service du groove, du dancefloor et des danseurs.euses. C'est également un amoureux de l'exercice de l'opening, qu'il affectionne et travaille régulièrement avec une attention d'orfèvre.

ANY YUGËL :

Co-fondatrice du collectif @Paradigg’, résidente de la webradio montréalaise @Lafaceb.live, et membre active de la branche house Void.X.Series de @void.records, @Any Yugël est une grande amatrice de minimale, et explore aujourd’hui aussi des terrains mêlant progressive house et trance, ce qui lui vaut une toute récente et nouvelle résidence avec le collectif @Ryugu. Son éclectisme et sa capacité à construire des sets cohérents se reflètent d’ailleurs dans ses podcasts pour Club Sauvage, Radio Sofa, 39 Records, Ryugu, La Face B ou encore lors de son passage sur la fameuse chaine Rinse.

HIEL CARTER :

Hiel Carter grandit au son des guitares et des lignes de basse, bercé dès l'enfance par l'univers du rock. Musicien dans l’âme, il commence très tôt à explorer les textures sonores à travers la guitare et la basse, instruments qui forgent sa sensibilité musicale. Il y a trois ans, il découvre la musique électronique, un véritable déclic qui l’emmène vers de nouveaux horizons sonores. Depuis, il s’immerge dans la production techno, house où il mêle son bagage instrumental à une recherche rythmique plus brute, plus percussive, mais toujours habitée par une énergie sincère.
