1979-82 Synthwave

Minimal Wave is proud to present a reissue of the seminal first album from Swiss Wavers, Guyer’s Connection. Tibor Csébits and Philippe Alioth formed Guyer’‘s Connection in Basel, Switzerland when they were only 14 and 15 years old. At the time they were in a new wave rock band called “Kurtzschluss” which they decided to break from in order to make purely electronic music. They began with two synthesizers, a drum machine, a 4-track tape recorder and a multitude of ideas. They channeled their unique and humorous vision into their first album, entitled Portrait which they produced themselves and self-released in 1983. Over the years, the album became a highly sought after minimal synth cult classic. It stands alone as one of the strongest examples of Swiss Minimal Wave, and probably the only one that is in Baseldytsch. The Portrait reissue is presented in a high quality gloss sleeve, with artwork to match their original sleeve design from 1983. The record features newly remastered audio pressed on 180 gram black vinyl, as a hand-numbered edition of 999. Release date: September 16th, 2014.

COSMIC ONION was the noisy lo-fi school band of Adam Cresswell who went on to form a number of other bands. SALOON (who released three albums, recorded 3 Peel Sessions and had 4 John Peel Festive 50 hits, including the 2002 number one), ARTHUR & MARTHA (who were an acclaimed electronica duo) and RODNEY CROMWELL his present act. He now also runs the record label Happy Robots.

COSMIC ONION were a musical band that merged punk, new wave and proto-Britpop making lo-fi music 4-track cassette music with the cheapest musical instruments (mostly borrowed), kids toys and found sounds from around the house. Influenced by Pixies, Joy Division, shoegaze and grunge they sounded, for the most part, like the worst of all worlds.  

Supermarket 2020 was Cresswell's first solo recording conceived as shopping-mall music for a supermarket in a distant nightmarish dystopian future.
