Marko Fürstenberg - Far Out

Grounded in techno, tech house and progressive, Andreia and I bring flavours of both the thriving Melbourne and Lisbon underground scenes together to create a sound that we feel is smooth, driving and pretty damn fresh.

In what I can only described as ‘the cutest fucking DJ romance, pretty much ever’, we had a fluke meeting early one morning at Europa Sunrise in Portugal’s capital Lisboa after finishing our retrospective sets. We immediately connected over a mutual love for tough, driving and emotive dance music.

Barely a week later, we played our first set together at the recently opened Micro Club in Lisboa. Holly shit it was fun! Besides the perfect fusion of sound, our chemistry together behind the decks was electric and I’m pretty sure the energy radiating from the two of us could be felt right throughout the club.

Fast-forward two months and we’re lucky enough to be together again, this time in Melbourne. 

We’ve laid down a set of just some of the tracks we’ve both loving at the moment. This is one direction of about 100 we could of taken the mix, so stay tuned for more ;)

Thank you everyone for listening to this set, not only is this my most listened to set, but it was also a submission for one of the coolest bookings in my career that got accepted..

Peace of Mind

It’s been two years since Stefan Z last released on this label, but the three tracks he serves up prove the wait has been more than worth it.

The Berlin based Canadian is the boss of the Rhombus label and is a top electronic production talent. He makes his sounds stand out with slick vocals or moving melodic elements, most likely because of his formally trained piano and trumpet playing skills. He’s had support from the likes of Sasha, Solomun and Adriatique, and his label parties in Vancouver were key in developing the city’s underground scene.

The super title track goes first and is a freaky number with spacecraft circling the groove, building tension in the melodic riffs and futurism in the drums. It’s a dramatic track with heavy, lumpy kicks and one to jolt the floor into action.

‘Borni’ is another long and involving tune, this time with more mystery and suspense in the way it builds. The drums get you marching as synths and ghoulish motifs pan about to creepy effect. It’s a real set building track that keeps you on edge.

Lastly, ‘Cipe’ is the toughest of the lot, with stiff hits and withering cosmic chords speaking of an intergalactic war. Underpinned by warm bass, it’s a widescreen cinematic affair with real beauty in the pads that eventually take over the show.

All three tracks here are mini epics that really take you on a trip.

Frankey & Sandrino have been staples on labels like Innervisions, Mule Musiq and Drumpoet Community since their partnership first yielded fresh fruits back in 2010.  Delicate electronics bubble, and icy melodies float over ‘Mira’s spacey aura, bringing together elements of 90s IDM and minimal techno in a refreshing way.  On ‘Naos’, a chugging groove and Italo inspired bassline unfolds to expose a transcendental lead line and a cosmic semblance that’s as infectious as it is irresistible.  

Cin Cin founder, Fort Romeau, delivers two cuts on home turf, teaming up with Jas Shaw (one half of Brit electronic duo, Simian Mobile Disco, and currently releasing solo material as part of his Exquisite Cops series) for a brace of deep, intergalactic tracks.  ‘Saturn Ascends’ is a space age, acid romance, whilst ‘Voices [no.III]’ offers up a more spirited piece, with lively percussion and a flitting tonal riff that is teased and tweaked through the space echo for good measure.

Idem Nevi is finally back on Oleeva. As soon as we heard 'Miss', with its patient drumless intro, thumping kicks and extra-terrestrial melodies we knew it would be the perfect final track for Kiku.  A farewell with a heavy yet hopeful heart.
