There are so many challenges, but so many opportunities in our cleantech disruptions, and here I talk CEO and business Thought Leader Brendan Keegan about how his business is leading the electrification of fleets in North America.

I speak With Max Ter Horst, entrepreneur and Managing Partner at Rockstart cleantech accelerator about what they are all about, how they help, and what part an accelerator plays in the cleantech ecosystem. About Max Ter Horst: 
Max is Managing Partner of Rockstart’s Energy Fund, offering early stage startups access to capital, market, expertise and community through a customized accelerator program and  follow-on investments up to series B.

Max is Dutch and based in Amsterdam. He has been active in renewable energy since 2003, when he helped Essent (currently RWE) to establish their wind business in Germany. As Director at EWT, the largest Dutch wind turbine manufacturer, he was responsible for corporate finance, business development and strategy. Further, he was co-founder and CEO of e-kite, a Dutch start-up which developed kite power systems.

Before entering the renewable energy sector, Max worked several years at McKinsey,  as Engagement Manager. He holds MSc degrees in Chemical Engineering at Delft University of Technology, Business Administration at Erasmus University Rotterdam  and an MBA from INSEAD.

What’s it all about?

Keeping the increase in global temperatures to below the 1.5 degrees agreed at the Paris climate change summit. My guest today, Philipp Schroeder has been instrumental in the growth of Tesla in Europe, the growth of Sonnen globally, and now throws his talent, connections and money into changing the landscape of last mile delivery of residential and small commercial solar, heat pumps, EV Charging infrastructure and energy supply. A big task, but already with much traction, and some big investment. I hope you enjoy the episode.

As a former Country Director of Tesla Germany & Austria and as Managing Director of Sonnen, Philipp was part of some of the most successful cleantech companies globally. What’s it all about?

I love this stuff!! Smart grids for the home, community and beyond. I also love when entrepreneurs from a fossil fuel, or ‘dirty’ world see the light and create great cleantech businesses. Never has energy been a bigger topic in the average household. The silver lining in the present energy and inflation crisis is that cleantech solutions make even more financial sense, as well as reducing carbon emissions. I talk to Alex about his business, his technology and the future of the Grid.

About Alex Bazhinov: 

An inventor and entrepreneur, Alex is driven by the vision of the energy grid that encompasses the many distributed energy resources. He had the idea for Lumin while tending to his first start up, DreamPower, which he founded at the University of Virginia’s iLab while earning his graduate degree at UVA’s Darden School of Business. Alex hails from Moscow, Russia, where he held senior finance positions in global firms–spending six years at Norilsk Nickel, the world’s largest nickel and palladium producer, and as CFO at the global manufacturing conglomerate, Sandvik.

Alex’s passion for a business challenge is aligned with his concern for the planet, having witnessed first-hand the negative impact of fossil fuel production around the world. When not chasing patents, Alex is busy at home with three young children and looks forward to his next sailing trip with his wife and first mates in training.
