These are friends of mine whose journeys and work have inspired me one way or the other. Megan Taylor and Claire Hardy are my guests for today! They are two amazing young leaders based in the UK. I met them in 2015 when we co-hosted a project called 1BA Community Day in Medie, in Ghana.

Megan began her career as a professional contemporary-ballet dancer in London. Whilst a dancer, she became curious about the dance community and noticed a void of professional and personal support - she started a network called Dance London that provided holistic training and support to young freelance dancers. From one-to-one support to larger educational seminars, her programming reached over 1000 dancers in two years.

Claire started her career at an early age as a professional dancer. She has travelled the world, worked as a behaviour interventionist for children with autism, facilitated various programmes within the dance world and the corporate sector. The charity sector however, is Claire’s passion, drive, and her my entire life. She has a strong affinity for small charities, because she believes the small charities have the ability to reach a smaller subset of society, to build trust, make tangible impact, plus a huge bonus of meeting incredible people doing amazing things.

Both Megan & Claire are co-founders of the charity Move The World; a UK registered charity focused on community development and Global Citizenship education in Ghana. They support the development of leadership skills and capabilities in young people, to enable projects and programmes that tackle local community issues.

Megan Taylor and Claire Hardy, Co-founders - Move The World, UK

I have known our guest for 7 years now. He’s such an inspiring young man. I met Jimmy Hendry Nzally in Casablanca Morocco, at the airport during a transit while going for a Global Youth Forum and immediately connected with his passion for the motherland.

Jimmy is Development Leader, and currently a final year PhD candidate at VUB in Brussels, Belgium. His PhD focuses on the 2016 Democratic Change in The Gambia that ousted Former President Yahya Jammeh to install Coalition President Adama Barrow in power.

He is an accredited and trained Entrepreneur by the Brussels School of Entrepreneurship. He has recently been selected as a Global Mentor by Global Mentee based in the United States and One Youth Ambassador, Belgium. Jimmy has helped to establish many partnerships between his alma mater University of The Gambia and universities in the UK, USA, Belgium, Czech Republic and Sweden.

Jimmy founded a grassroots organization called Global Hands Gambia in 2013, and a leadership programme called UTG Leadership Fellowship in 2015. He has vast experience working with agencies, institutions and international organizations in The Gambia, such as the Gambia Government, the World Food Program, and the US Embassy – American Corner.

He is known for his over 10 years’ experience in youth and community activism, 6 years’ experience running youth programmes on the West Coast radio as a presenter, in The Gambia, and his leadership engagements at the grassroots.

Jimmy Hendry Nzally, PhD Researcher - VUB, Belgium, Founder - Global Hands, The Gambia

We have an amazing woman as our guest. Originally from Ghana and Ivory Coast, but based in the US. Viola Tebah is a graduate with a master’s in taxation from Southern New Hampshire University and a bachelor's degree in Accounting from Coppin State University. She’s a partner at VAYA LLC and a Senior Tax Accountant at Malone Dirubbo & Company, PC. 

Viola has over six years industry experience in Accounting, Compliance, Financial Statements preparation, Non-profit, Tax Planning, Income & Business tax returns preparation. 

She is the founder of Tebah Educational Initiative – an organization with a mission to give hope, inspiration, motivation and encouragement to students to strive for excellence through mentorship programs.

Viola  serves as a motivational speaker, educator, business consultant and humanitarian. She helps students to reflect on their past and to see the prospect of their future, which enables them to move forward with confidence.

Viola Tebah, Founder -  Tebah Educational Initiative, USA, Ghana, Ivory Coast

Owula Nii Nortei Adumuah is a proactive young man taking bold steps to see a positive mind-set-shift among African millennials. He is an alumnus of Central University, Ghana with a Bachelor of Architecture degree and a member of the 2018 British Council/Nesta Creative Enterprise programme.

As a social entrepreneur and budding Architect, he finds joy in contributing to improving the built environmental landscape in Ghana as well as impacting society in diverse ways.

This drive propelled him to start Hojja Africa, a non-profit social innovation enterprise with the aim of bridging the Knowledge, Cultural and Networking gap among the next generation of African youth.

He is the also the project lead for Design-SCHEL (Shelter, Culture, Health, Education, Lifestyle) a team of young dynamic architects that aspire to use architecture as social intervention tool with the aim of impacting communities.

In 2011, he launched the Savefirst initiative, a project that brought financial literacy to primary school student in selected schools in Accra. He also has several years of volunteering experience up his sleeves.

Owula Nortei is passionate about Africa, Social Architecture, Tourism and Creative arts. He believes in the mantra that I love so much that says

“The world has space to accommodate everyone, every dream and every purpose; find your space.”

Owula Nii Nortei Adumuah, Founder -  Hojja Africa, Project Lead, Design-SCHEL, Ghana

Rajiv is an experienced corporate professional, with more than twelve years of experience within the financial services industry. He has worked at three of the four big banks in South Africa and is currently a Senior Specialist at Absa Capital.

During his tenure, Rajiv has built complex financial models and led the implementation of multiple multi-million rand strategic and tactical systems and technology solutions end-to-end across the African continent. He has travelled extensively to many countries within the region. Rajiv is a skilled product owner, change manager and has a passion for data, infrastructure, innovation, technology and venture capital.

Rajiv has a Bachelor of Science Honours degree in Actuarial Science from University of the Witwatersrand. He also has a Postgraduate Diploma in Actuarial Techniques from the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries in the United Kingdom. Rajiv holds numerous international certifications: Registered Persons Examinations from the South African Institute of Financial Markets; change and project management; and lean six sigma.

Outside of work, Rajiv is passionate about education and in developing young future leaders through making a positive sustainable change to society. He has developed a financial literacy game, called iMali, with the Actuarial Society of South Africa, to teach students the impact of financial decisions. He also has been involved in numerous other initiatives: as being the deputy chair of the Actuarial Society System and Technology Committee; a member of the International Actuarial society banking working group; and has been a mentor to many young individuals.

Rajiv is also the Finance Director of the Brightest Young Minds non-profit organisation, which educates Africa’s future leaders on entrepreneurship. Being a part of the BYM board, is a place where Rajiv can influence and shape Africa’s future with some of the brightest young minds on the African continent.

Rajiv Singh - Senior Specialist, Absa Capital, Finance Director, Brightest Young Minds, South Africa

Lois Damptey is a PhD candidate at the Open University, UK in the Materials Engineering Department, currently investigating the use of low-cost photocatalytic materials for wastewater treatment in Ghana (GCRF Funded). 

She is the Founder of Dear Young Graduate, an initiative created to help students from developing countries access further education through scholarships. 

She is also the Director of the Sankofa Mentorship Hub at the Synergies Institute - Ghana and the Secretary for Vacation Initiatives in Science, Africa, both NGOs, actively focused on the use of innovative and fun activities to advocate for STEM education. 

Lois has been listed as 1 of 74 Ghanaians who inspire Ghana. She has been a recipient of many major scholarships in her academic career journey which includes; The Royal Academy of Engineering, Engineering X project award (STEM4AFRICA project), The Global Challenges Research Fund, The Leverhulme Royal Society African Award, Robert Bosch Stiftung award winner for Young African Researchers, among others.

Lois Damptey, PhD Researcher - Open University, UK, Founder - Sankofa Mentorship Hub, Ghana

Tshepo Seloane is a dynamic Africa Changer. He has spent the last 10 years of his life advocating for access justice through a street law based initiative called Tsosang Molao (Awaken the Law), a passion he followed as a law student, right through into the attorney’s profession.

Tshepo lends his voice as a legal contributor on South African Radio namely Power Fm and SA FM and through his online Vlog “the Mbewu Soapbox”.

He is the Executive Director of Mbewu - a youth led social organisation which aims to inspire the youth to become active agents of change in their communities through Business, Education and Social Activism.
