‘Rainmaker’ is the first collaboration between celebrated Dutch electronic music artist NATHASSIA and one of India’s hottest producers GAR. Nathassia explains “the song is inspired by a lens to the future when climate change wreaks rampant drought”. Described by Grammy winning writer/producer Bruce Elliott-Smith as “mystical melodies, haunting lyrics and ecstatic Saxophone”.

NATHASSIA’s current single with D3FAI “In My Head” is #9 in Club MTV’s Big 20 and playlisted on MTV Dance International. In MY head has already had support from KISS FM and was #9 in the Beatport Big Room Chart. Nessrine grandit dans un cadre familial étouffant et violent qui lui vaut d'être surnommée « la prisonnière » par ses amis d’école. À l’université, la jeune femme s’isole et se réfugie sur les réseaux sociaux. C’est là qu’elle croise une recruteuse pour des candidat.e.s au djihad en Syrie. Convaincue qu’une vie meilleure l’attend, elle se marie par Skype à un Français djihadiste déjà sur place, quelques semaines après sa radicalisation. Le 9 décembre 2013, âgée de 22 ans, Nessrine embarque dans un avion pour partir en Syrie...

La cage : une Française dans le djihad 
Nessrine a passé cinq ans en Syrie au coeur de Daech. Jamais une Française de retour de l’Etat islamique n’a parlé aussi librement et avec autant de lucidité de ce qu’elle a vécu et des motifs de son embrigadement. Une série documentaire d'Édith Bouvier et Céline Martelet, toutes deux grandes reporters et spécialistes du Moyen Orient.

"Je m’appelle Nessrine, j’ai 29 ans et deux enfants. J’ai passé cinq ans en Syrie dans le territoire de Daech. Je suis en liberté conditionnelle et j’attends l’ouverture de mon procès." La voix de la jeune Française paraît d’autant plus douce que la descente aux enfers qu’elle raconte est terrible. Fuyant une famille violente et oppressante (sa première "cage"), Nessrine, en manque de repères et manipulée par des islamistes, est partie en Syrie en pensant se rendre utile auprès d’un peuple en souffrance. Elle pensait aussi pouvoir y vivre plus librement un Islam radical. Elle paiera cher sa naïveté et son manque de repères, tombant aussitôt entre les griffes de l’État islamique dans une Raqqa mise en coupe réglée. Revenue de tout, après deux mariages avec d’importants djihadistes, elle est la première Française à faire, de l’intérieur, le récit intime et détaillé de la mécanique du monstre terroriste et de son propre parcours. Un éclairage indispensable pour comprendre la mécanique de l'embrigadement et du terrorisme. 

Édith Bouvier et Céline Martelet sont toutes deux grandes reporters, spécialistes du Moyen Orient. Elles ont publié "Un parfum de djihad" (éditions Plon, 2018), une enquête inédite sur les Françaises de l'État islamique. Elles ont tout récemment remporté le 3ème prix radio pour un reportage à Idlib (Syrie), au Prix Bayeux Calvados-Normandie des correspondants de guerre.

We recently hosted a conversation between Mikael Cho, Co-Founder & CEO of Unsplash, and Elliot Susel, Faculty Member at Lean Startup Co., about how Unsplash put community at the center of their product.

Co-Founder & CEO of the photo-sharing startup, Unsplash, Mikael Cho, spoke with Lean Startup Co. faculty member, Elliot Susel, about how a simple problem with photo access filled the needs of a community of photo lovers. 
 
The most successful startups often tap into an unfulfilled need that nobody has gotten around to filling. Unsplash did just that in the photography space. Mikael, who comes from the design industry, saw a problem that needed solving before he ever planned to start a company from the solution. When building the website for his design business, Crew, Mikael quickly realized that finding good photos that didn’t cost a lot of money was “a really crappy process.” 
 
He wanted a way to remove the licenses from photos so users could have access to high quality photos without paying a lot or jumping through hoops. The easiest solution was just to take them, themselves. They hired a photographer.
 
Left with a bunch of unused photos after the shoot, Mikael wanted to use them to create a photo-finding experience that would be the opposite of his own bad one. “We made the ideal experience for someone who wanted to use photos, and we could use our own,” he said.
 
With a $9 domain name for Unsplash and a Tumblr theme for $19, they threw up a simple website in three hours with one goal: to upload ten new photos every ten days for anyone who wanted to use them. From there they used public Dropbox links hooked up to a MailChimp newsletter and a Google Docs sign up form. 
 
Their website was so simple Mikael says they were actually embarrassed by it and didn’t plan to share it too widely. The only bit of advertising they did was to post a link to Unsplash on Hacker News, a site where they’d never had much success, so if it flopped, it would be no big deal. Instead, what followed, Mikael calls a “happy accident”: tens of thousands of people signed up on their Google Doc and began accessing the photos.
