In many comments I am often compared with great male musicians. There are references to the Beatles, to Pink Floyd, sometimes also to Bob Dylan or Rio Reiser. 
However, three outstanding female artists have influenced me in my musical work: 
Carole King's unique compositions on her century album "Tapestry" have inspired me to create my first own melodies;
Patti Smith's overwhelming poetic language gave me the impetus to create my own lyrics;
And finally, Joni Mitchell's highly original guitar playing encouraged me to develop my own way of playing guitar.
With "My Musical Mother" I create my own personal (musical) monument to these three brilliant women.    

My Musical Mother

I wander within me back to an earlier time
About 12 years old, not yet ready to live
Often lost and alone, frozen inside myself

Often lay awake at night, afraid of life
Life seemed like a boomerang
Who's gonna hit me with three 
Penalties every time I made a wish roll

When I was that lonely, she came to me
Sat down at the piano just for me

Was just there for me
Held me out with my whole soul robe

But I still couldn't think of words
My language: Shallow and gray 
The first lyrics: Kitschy and tepid

Then I was 15, hanging out with my stoner boyfriend
On the turntable "Horses" spinning around
And I thought, "Damn, she's pronouncing it" 

I read her poems, she whispered to me 
The pictures in my ears, she opened the door for me 
To the poetry

To words that caress, to phrases that cry 
To rhymes in which the world shakes for a moment
And everything Dead rises again

Through you my soul finally spoke to me
I developed a sense for word and a feeling for language
My first lyrics on the wall
As written by a magic hand

Now I had the sounds and the lyrics
But one instrument was missing until the end
I often lay on my bed
Just hum along in my mind

Until one day, my fat neighbor friend 
Put a guitar around my neck
And showed me how the easiest chords go

A year later he put in a movie of you
You sang to your guitar all by yourself
You had a very unique way 
Of plucking and picking up chords

I didn't know about your early handicap
And took your play with me into my warm bed
