Artesian Sounds is back after a two-year rest, announcing Scissorwork’s new EP ‘Identity Crisis’. Giving a nod to his efforts at knitting together different sounds and genres into a coherent whole, ‘Identity Crisis’ comprises three stylistically distinct tracks shot through with the Bristol producer’s signature stylings. Moving forward from his earlier forays into lo-fi, Scissorwork presents a collage of influences spanning house, electro and broken-beat.

The opener ‘A Hundred Years’ is a summery earworm featuring cascading synth lines and a catchy vocal hook meandering over a guitar loop, comped with delicate touches on the Rhodes in quieter moments.

‘Be Someone’ is the first single to be taken from Dam-based don Retromigration’s debut album. Fourteen expertly executed tracks that range from hazy beats and jazz-tinged broken rhythms to club-ready groovers, deep excursions, soulful footwork and even some jungle energy. A flavour for every occasion and damn it tastes good.

With an envious run of releases on the likes of Handy, Healthy Scratch, wewillalwaysbealovesong and WOLF in a relatively short space – Retormigration is a hot property and it’s clear to see why. We are confident this album will be his breakthrough release, solidifying his status on the scene. ‘Be Someone’ features Bezzix and here the duo masterfully blend shuffling, latin percussion, strings, sax, piano, double bass and vocals. Hamburg duo Hauke Freer and Matthias Relling aka Session Victim return to Delusions of Grandeur with their second long player, 'See You When You Get There'.

Right from the start it's clear Session Victim's way with a groove hasn't diminished in the two years since their debut album, 2012's 'The Haunted House of House'. ‘Do It Now’ and ‘Hey Stranger’ open the record with the duo's trademark blend of subtle sampling, gloriously swinging beats and the same off-kilter sensibility that consistently raises them above their modern disco peers.

The new album marks a conscious progression in Freer & Relling's approach, evolving the sample-based production style that's won them plenty of fans since their emergence in 2008. Whereas their debut album was recorded in the duo's bedrooms, the new LP instead sees them embracing a full studio set-up, split between their own Hamburg-based studio and the fully-kitted out Room G studio in San Francisco.

Despite being situated in one of the USA's most beautiful locations, the duo found little time for anything outside the work at hand. Time not spent in the studio saw them raiding the two-dollar bins of Amoeba Music for interesting records to sample. "Having access to a fully-equipped studio was like hitting the jackpot. It was a bit intimidating too - we thought 'if we cannot write the LP here, it’s not in us'. A few days later we already forgot about this and were immersed in jamming and exploring," says Hauke. "We had access to all sorts of 80s drum machines, synths and fender rhodes of course that added another layer to the whole thing."

The resulting LP is as expected one that suits a variety of moods within SV's idosyncratic range - from the dancefloor thrills of the piano-led Never Forget, the classic disco percussion & filtered guitar licks of Stick Together and the heads down groove of The Most Beautiful Divorce Ever to the more laid back jazz tempos of Hyuwee and Crystal Maze, while the record also has a place for the more oddball moments of Under Your Spell and Eos Place. ‘See You When You Get There' finds Session Victim at their best yet, with an accomplished album that will likely emerge as one of 2014's strongest in its field.

London-based label @AxeOnWax-Records has been an absolute powerhouse as of late, dishing out quality offerings one after another between itself and its sub-labels, the gritty Axe Traxx and groovy forthcoming PNP. Now, the label’s main imprint has its AOW 008 release coming up, bringing back the dance floor focus with cozy cuts from Marlon Hoffstadt and Jesse Bru on the A’s, and Jad & The and Turenne rounding off the B's.

Our premiere track comes from Brisbane-born, Berlin-based @Jad-Lee. You may know him previously as Jad & The Ladyboy, or simply Jad Lee, co-founder of taste-making radio show Beats of No Nation. Jad brings us B1 'Gospel Five’, a bouncy number packed with quirk and character. ‘Gospel Five’ opens with the immediacy of raw percussion and lightly droning flutters. Cosmic synth flourishes drives the track’s direction, moving forward against the backdrop of a casual dialogue between block keys chords. Jad chucks in some fun surprises – glitchy percussive rolls, abrupt wind-downs, and wobbly pitch slides… you name it. Just when you think the track is building momentum, we jump to an interlude featuring an up-pitched spoken vocal sample over tribal drums and a sustained, suspenseful pad-synth chord. Dynamic, engaging and unexpected, Jad & The’s track makes you listen real hard, but without compromising on that dance floor punch.

If early support from Baltra, Deejay Astral and DJ Octopus goes to show anything, it’s that AOW 008 is one to look out for!
