I Heard The Bells On Christmas Day - Leanne Daharja Veitch / ROCS Choir Melbourne

Based on the poem “Christmas Bells” by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow (1807-1882).

This short choral (SATB) work is designed to be sung a cappella, although a piano accompaniment is included and is optional. It would suit a Christmas concert or a concert of anti-war and peace songs.

I Heard the Bells on Christmas Day (Choral SATB midi Demo)

Leanne Daharja Veitch is an Australian-born New Zealand composer, living in Dunedin. 

Although she had sung in choirs since her mid 20s, it wasn't until her mid 30s that she first attempted to compose, when her then-husband suggested that it might help her finally learn how to read music. Her first work, The Wheel of the Year (2004), an 18 minute song cycle, shortly followed, and has since been performed in over a dozen countries. Her works are now being performed regularly across the globe from South Africa to the United Kingdom to the United States and Mexico.

Primarily a choral composer, Leanne is currently moving into popular songwriting, instrumental, and orchestral composition. Variations on her works have been developed and performed by musicians in countries including Israel, the United Kingdom, Brazil and Argentina.

Leanne's goal as a composer is to write accessible music that is memorable, fun to sing, and original. She specialises in shorter, a cappella works, and writes music that choirs will return to again and again, as staple works in their repertoires. Many of her performances are repeats, and feedback has been very positive, from audiences and performers alike.

Leanne is mother of two young children. Her interests include writing, board games, food and travel.
