01 Midnight Movies

Simon Gledhill is an Indie Folk singer songwriter based in Brighton, UK. Rise Again is the latest single release (2024). Recorded at The Yard Studio in Hove, the track is a confident portrayal of the Lean with the Breeze sound. A must listen for anyone who enjoys well-crafted acoustic songwriting paired with memorable melodies and harmonies. Performing solo and as a trio backed by Fred Hills (drums) and Joe Woodham (double bass), Simon is known for writing honest, heartfelt songs that are both reflective and uplifting.

After co-writing and releasing 5 EPs with three-part harmony driven Indie Folk trio Liemba, Simon is now embarking on a solo career to shine a light on his own prolific catalogue of songs. In 2020, Simon recorded two of his newest tracks: Crossing Over and All with a Smile. Recorded by himself at home, these tracks became the starting point for the new direction. Both tracks are minimalist in instrumentation, featuring only acoustic guitar, electric guitar and bass with some percussion and backing vocals. The idea was to represent Simon in as true a form as possible before delving into working with other musicians and building the sound.  

With the release of the first two solo tracks, Fred Hills (Ellie Ford, Michael Baker, Time For T & Mara Simpson) and Joe Woodham (Jouis) were brought onboard to develop the live shows as well as the studio sound. This led to the recording of the Cognito Sunshine EP, a departure from the initial bedroom recordings and a realisation of the true potential of Lean with the Breeze. The EP was recorded and produced by Alex Barron at the Yard Studio. It features three tracks that are a cross-section of the different types of tunes in Simon’s songbook. Positive, uplifting, folky, reflective, bold and sometimes rocky. Listeners will get a clear picture of what Lean with the Breeze is about.
