To celebrate the end of my 2nd year at University, I wanted to upload this track I made the other day for my final assignment! It is the product of between 4-6 hours work and I'm very pleased with the turn out! 

This track was a new direction for me, and was made for the brief of chilled lofi hip hop. I intended to challenge the audience's perception of 'chilled lofi,' therefore I used a poignant sample from a 1950's interview with a young French woman, discussing schizophrenia. The young woman talks about disassociation, feeling out of control and being devoid of love; topics which were the inspiration for my own lyrics. The interview content juxtaposed with her melodic, expressive voice, really confronts the audience, and make us want to understand her better. 

With my lyrics, I have tried to encapsulate this feeling of ownership over life and love and the vulnerability that comes with baring yourself to others: 

"I've got my heart on a line,
And it's mine to give away,
My love won't wait,
So don't save it for a rainy day."

a way to go till we’re friends

Utilising my own passion for choral vocalisation, textural harmonies and interest in the Fantasy genre, I wanted to create a piece that transported the listener into their imagination; taking them anywhere from an Elven realm, an enchanted hall under a mountain or an aviary nestled within the ruins of a cathedral. 

I wrote this track based on a dream I had of the latter, and visualised the scene when developing my soundscape. The opening sequence utilises foley I recorded around my family home (using a zoom recorder), including the birds, river, chime, door and footsteps. 

Combining these samples with carefully crafted reverb, dense textural harmonies and dynamic, fluid melodies, I built my own ethereal fantasy-ambient piece. 

I was inspired by Brian Eno’s “2/1- Remastered 2004,” from the album, ‘Ambient 1: Music For Airports (Remastered 2004), which I highly recommend checking out!

The unusual samples, timing and structure, combined with united vocal textures and my unconventional approach to ambient music, deliver a piece that hopefully conveys unbridled emotion, whilst retaining a sense of tranquility for the listener.
