Experience the high strangeness of plant music—plants that “sing.” For years musician Nico Georis has used biofeedback instruments to connect a variety of flora to analog synthesizers, letting their biodata create music that is strange and existentially gorgeous.

Nico’s work in plant music happened during a six year span, and was set in motion by a simple desire to find a fresh supply of long-form ambient music for relaxing to at home. After a chance encounter with an obscure technology dating back to the 70’s allowing plant electricity to be converted to MIDI data, Nico began experimenting with using his house plants to generate endlessly evolving ambient music. “I was looking for music that I couldn’t find, and I realized the plants & I could make it.”

Here was an opportunity for another type of ambient music, one not born of the human brain, to emerge. A music that moves beyond human thought forms all together, and leans deeply into the green. Culled from hundreds of plant songs recorded between 2016 - 2022 both at home and in the wild Plant Music Vol. 1 and 2 represent the “greatest hits” of Nico’s plant music years.

Plant music Vol. 3 marks the newest installation, showcasing music generated from psilocybin mushrooms, known by many as “Golden Teachers”.

"This music is created via an artistic translation of electrical biodata into musical data. Two mushrooms and the mycelium connecting them are hooked-up to sensors, and their fluctuating electrical conductivity is translated into an equivalent flow of music notes (MIDI). These notes are then filtered into musical scales and routed into synthesizers that generate tones.

These recordings have been arranged into a variety of solos, duets and trios. They reflect what we feel are the most fascinating and beautiful examples of psilocybin mushroom music, straight from the tub."

Nico Georis is a keyboard player, producer & songwriter from California. He produces music from his studio at Granny's Dancehall in a ghost town amidst the wilderness. His music, a unique amalgamation of global influences, presents an imposing total aesthetic that is all his own.

Spencer Zahn is the LA-residing bassist/multi-instrumentalist and composer who has released several albums both as a solo artist and as a collaborator. His music is marked by openness - spacious sonic spaces rich with contributions from his creative community.

In November 2023, Zahn released Statues - the album compositions were written during a six month period of solitary focus - however after moving to Los Angeles in early 2023, Zahn started to work with a group of new musicians that make up some of the most exciting players in LA. His new west coast quartet consists of Nicole McCabe, Vancil Cooper, and Zach Tenorio.

On Zahn’s latest offering Statues Live the west coast quartet performed two live concerts both recorded to make up the tracklisting for his new album. Though the compositions are the same as the studio album Statues, the sound and performance is unique to this new live album leaning heavily on the perspective of the quartet and their collective improvisations. Side A was recorded live, outdoors at the Leaving Records concert series. Side B was recorded live, indoors at Altamira Sound in front of a studio audience.

Spencer Zahn - Statues Live

Southern rock from Tallahassee, Florida.  Taylor Ross, age 23, played all the instruments on this album, breaking bones in a freak accident while flailing arms and head during a drum session. He finished, recording with his neck turned at a 90-degree for weeks on end. Pain killers may have been consumed. Surface To Air Missive became a band of four members.  They met Matthewdavid from Leaving records, who brought the album to Stones Throw. Leaving & Stones Throw have pressed 300 copies of the vinyl, all of which were commandeered by the band. recent credits include production for Captain Murphy's Duality and Earl Sweatshirt's Doris.

Wish You Were Here is his first release with Leaving Records & Stones Throw. It's sixteen tracks ­ instrumentals with three rap tracks featuring
Evidence, The Alchemist and Samiyam, making his debut on the mic. "I'm just trying to show where I'm coming from," he says, "I'm not about futuristic spaceship beats, just straight forward hip-hop."

Ana Roxanne is an intersex Southeast Asian musician based in Los Angeles. Born & raised in the Bay Area to immigrant parents, Ana's love for music and singing began through her mother's cd collection of 80's/90's R&B divas. Raised in the catholic church, she became a devout choir nerd and found any opportunity to sing, whether for religious mass, the jazz ensemble of her catholic high school, or karaoke at family gatherings. Her commitment to singing led her to a brief stint at a vocational jazz program in the cornfields of the midwest; in a remote town of 7,000 people, she began a formal study of jazz and classical music. During these years she would tour with her jazz and chamber ensembles to beautiful old cathedrals in nearby cities and became enamored with the sacredness of choral music, as well as the enveloping sound of harmony. 

A near death experience, too, served as a connection between music and spirituality, and music as a healing art after facing tragedy. 

In 2013, Ana was also fortunate enough to spend a few months in Uttarkhand, India where she met an incredible voice teacher who introduced her to classical Hindustani singing. Living and studying with this teacher deeply impacted her outlook on the voice as art. It was there that she began to see the singer - the Diva - as a symbol of divinity; that the unique power of one's voice comes from the vulnerability of using the body as an instrument. Be it romance, love, or worship of a deity - in order to access such depths of emotional expression, one must be willing to be intensely vulnerable, lay one's heart in the open air, expose what is kept hidden. This brief study was the catalyst that led her to finish her music study at the experimental Mills College in Oakland, CA, where she began to combine all of these influences into her current self-titled project. This album ~~~ was created during her last years residing in the Bay Area, a tribute to the great musicians who inspired her and the landscape where she spent her formative years. 

In addition to the worship of R&B and pop divas, Ana's current practice explores themes of gender & identity. In October of 2018, she decided to come out publicly as intersex, and is dedicated to being a voice for her community and speaking out about social justice for intersex youth.
