Kicking off our 4th year of TSM Reports with something completely different right now! This month we've got a juke/footwork mix by one of the Denver locals holding it down for this niche of quick and complex bass music, Wayzout. The mix does a great job of representing all sides of this style from the chaotic, disjointed and wild to the smoother, more forgiving and melodically focused moments. Expect the unexpected! Regular changes between 4 on the floor and broken beats, crazy intricate rhythms in the percussion, the heavily looped vocal cuts: all the hallmarks of this Chicago style of bass music are present. He sent us a 2h long DJ set divided into 2 parts:
1h with a lot of jazz/funk fused with breakbeat and trip-hop amongst the techy future-music. The second hour begins as he describes it : "with a particular favourite from Sasha’s ‘Airdrawndagger’ which queues me up to deliver a further hour of “standard fare” dancefloor tunes which I might want to play during an eg. 2300-0000 slot."

Dark Arps’ sound is a blend of broken beat and techno underpinned with dark, razor-sharp melodies, progressive hooks and tough basslines... futuristic, emotional and always danceable.
