Tribute to Huinali Recodings by Monochrome (31.01.23)

This has been an ongoing tradition for over a decade (by my count, this is the 13th year). This time, I didn’t even reach out with a friendly reminder. Mike Jedlicka of Optic Echo just let me know that he’s already on it, and here we are with a selection of his favourite vinyl releases of the year. Every single year, I complain about the amount of music, and every single year, I keep wanting even more. And even as I drown in all of the releases, it’s always amazing to discover new and fantastic sounds from a trusted source. This trusted source, of course, is Mike Jedlicka. Even if our tastes do not align on all the genres (and that’s a good thing, may I add), I can always appreciate a good selection when I hear one. If you like these choices, be sure to check out the entire archive of Optic Echo Presents mixes (there is even one where he picks his favourites of the decade). About:
GAMADON (aka GAvin MAc DONagh) started buying records and DJing in 1996 in Dublin, Ireland. Established the Warehouse Manifesto (WM) record label and guest mix series in 2020. He has a monthly livestream/show for Electronic Convergence playing deep electro and occasionally deep house/techno. Had the privilege of warming up for The Prodigy, on their European tour in cities such as Berlin, Hanover, Prague and Luxembourg in 2015-2016.

Greyscale's 114th edition of their Mood Series introduces a promising newcomer to the label, Psycho Panther, with his debut album titled Eclectic. The album presents a diverse collection of tracks that were not originally intended to coexist in the same project, yet they seamlessly blend together to form a cohesive listening experience.

The album opens with 'I Guess So,' a chord-driven, techy track that sets the tone with its ominous atmosphere. The distant jet rocket-like chords evoke a feeling of uncertainty and resignation, perfectly capturing the internal struggle of reluctantly fulfilling commitments. Next is 'Pseudo-live,' a hypnotic journey into the depths of dub-techno. The track plunges listeners into a deep watery abyss, with swirling textures and dynamic variations inspired by automated LFO mapped filters. It's a testament to Psycho Panther's ability to create immersive sonic landscapes. Inspired by moments of daydreaming during production, the track delves into the concept of procedural memory and the subconscious influence on creative output. The album continues with 'Hupomeno,' a track that invites listeners to reflect and contemplate. Its atmospheric soundscape and introspective mood offer a moment of respite before transitioning into 'Then Fly' which delivers a spatially deep techno with melodic chords that inspire a sense of hope and freedom. The track's metaphorical message encourages listeners to trust in themselves and take a leap of faith, symbolized by the act of learning to fly.

From the ominous tones of 'I Guess So' to the uplifting melodies of 'Then Fly,' the album takes listeners on a captivating journey through diverse styles and attitudes. With its seamless blend of techno, dub, and atmospheric elements, Eclectic is a promising debut that leaves listeners eager to hear more from Psycho Panther in the future.

I put this together in April 2024, but circumstances have once again caused the delay of its release. This was the first track I made using the Crow Hill Vaults Beta Celest-a-tone and Attic Grand. There is a lot of reverb in use here, but less than I used on an earlier iteration of this piece.

It's a piece of music in two contrasting parts - darkness and light
