This week we highlight the work of UK Electro wizard Phil Klein, also known as Bass Junkie. 

Starting in 1996, Phil began 'Battle Trax' to distribute his brutal brand of bass-fuelled beats, though he has released music since 94. Fans were soon enjoying large doses of Cybernet Systems, Final Dreams, Industrial Bass Machines and Kronos Devices - all variants of the highly addictive Bass Junkie sound. This track comes right off his 2009 release 'Comply', though the song was originally released in 2003 on the legendary ‘Breakin’ Records’.

Cyborg Rhetoric is an electro producer who spends half his time in South Florida and the other half in the internet.

1. Which artists has influenced you the most?

- My homie and mentor Grow for sure. I also grew up on Dynamix II, Rabbit in the Moon, Debbie Deb and Freestyle (the genre and artist).

2. What new projects/releases with your participation are expected in the near future?

- I have a track coming out on vinyl release over on Ovelha Trax. I also have another single from my upcoming album on CHP Recordings coming out soon along with a music video directed by Strange Wave.

3. Which artists/labels is more relevant to you now? 

- Loving LFT, Amadeezy, Grow, Nite Flite, INVT and more. 

4. What inspires you now to create music?

- The need to get these sounds out of my head.

5. If it's not a secret, what set-up do you use when creating music?

- I used to have a cool studio with keyboards and stuff. Then I had a mini cyborg and now I’ve got just a laptop, a midi keyboard and more VSTS than I know what to do with. Ideas matter more than gear, imo.

Kronos Device - Planet X EP [No Static / Automatic // NSA005]

No Static Automatic is back with a ferocious offering from two pillars of the UK electro scene: The Dexorcist & Bass Junkie aka Kronos Device.

The Dexorcist grew up on a diet of ‘80s electro, hip hop and Miami bass before graduating to acid house, techno, bleep and bass. Involved in London’s warehouse scene throughout the ‘90s and heading up the Control Tower label alongside Keith Tenniswood of Two Lone Swordsmen, The Dexorcist has gone on to release music on seminal labels like Furthur Electronix, Super Rhythm Trax, and Yellow Machines.

On the other side of the workshop, we have Phil Klein aka Bass Junkie. A devoted electro head from the start, Bass Junkie has been active as a DJ, live act and producer since the late ‘80s. His signature take on gnarly, bass-led electro led him to work with artists like Radioactiveman, Egyptian Lover, and Dynamix II; releasing on Touchin’ Bass, Elektrix, and DMX Krew’s Breakin’ Records, not to mention his own Battle Trax imprint.

Here, The Dexorcist and Bass Junkie join forces again as Kronos Device, serving up an impeccable 4-tracker of pulsing grit, extra-terrestrial bass and funky machine hydraulics.
