A set of suitable songs for Halloween I have done over the years with my good friends I have worked with in a collaborative way.

Halloween Executables

"Shoot Out The Lights" is the result of an open collaboration my good friend Stefan (Rock Flexible) put out around near enough three weeks back now. It's the first in a short series of NoNameYet songs of Playback tracks inviting singers to have a bash and write some lyrics and a title for and sing it.

Well having heard Stefan's great track and great work it instantly appealed to myself and totally rocked that much I decided to have a go at it myself. I had some free time to get to work on it this week and squeeze it in between some of the other collabs I am currently working on. 

For my interpretation for this one I decided to go dark and evil and do a bit of Satan Rock regarding the lyrics I wrote. There was a section I did not want sing on or write a couple more verses, so I decided to throw in my own little lead break on the guitar. Though that is perhaps a bit boxed standard as the lead guitar is not my forte one bit.

Lee Lucas & Rock Flexible - Shoot Out All The Lights

Back in February Dirk posted a short video of himself on Facebook playing a well tasty metal riff on his new electric guitar. I dropped a comment on it and as a gesture asked him to stick some bass and drums on it and send it to me and it will ROCK. 

I have always been fascinated how Dirk himself uses poetry from poets well over a century old in some cases. His songs "Richard Cory" and "The Bells" are classic examples, and perhaps an inspiration for me regarding of what I wanted here was really an horror story. 

The title "The Butchers Of Harlington" very much entered my head before I wrote a word, and it was the fact that Dirk had used poets from the 19th Century and from reading some of the funny descriptions my good friend Nick R. Davies puts on his haunting tracks about the 19th century very much made me add the year 1851 to the title.

There is no doubt "The Butchers Of Harlington 1851" is an horrific tale, that also as it's humorous parts, and with Dirks superb job on the music it as presented it in the form of a dramatic mini horror rock opera which I feel works very well if I may say so myself.

The Lyrics are as follows:  

In a small village in harlington 1851
on the corner of St. Cleaves street
stood a butchers shop
run by the butcher and his ghastly son

Chopping up dead carcases 
into fine joints of meat
no one was sure where it came from 
but it served the villagers a tasty treat

(1st Chorus)
I can see you
you will see me
and that will be your fall
the butchers knife will penetrate
and his cleaver will end it all
Life's forsaken hearts are taken
liver kidneys limbs and gore
to feed the mouths in harlington
at a price they can afford
Nothing gets by blood never runs dry
and they all come back for more
the population will decrease
if their trade does not cease

Many people went missing 
word got out it was not safe upon the streets
but the butchers were opening up all hours
making a killing from their butchery deeds

Though soon constable riley became suspicious  
when something unsavoury caught his eye
but by the next day he too went missing 
and there was a special on pork pies

His knife will get you
and slice right through you
so best stay safe indoors
when the butcher strikes 
there's no escape
you'll wind up hanging on his claw
Fear is breaking people all shaking
as more disappear by the score
there's an unrest now in harlington
more than there ever was before
No clues to follow they've all been swallowed
as they eat more meat than before
the butcher sure aims to please
whilst the towns at unease

Things were stirring up in harlington
more police were called in to take on the case
though the butcher was very clever and cleaned up well
and he never ever left a trace

Sergeant atkins started choking 
and coughed up what appeared to be a finger nail
but the next day he was hanging up on hooks
and a new batch of sausage rolls done very well in the sale

If you by chance should visit harlington
don't forget to pick up some tasty treats
I'm pretty sure it will not be long
before you will make all its villagers a very tasty feast

Lee Lucas & HeartScore - The Butchers Of Harlington 1851

My second collaboration with Dirk and once again another piece of Horror Rock done especially for this Halloween night. Once again Dirk as done the business on the music and done it in great Prog Rock style, and once again I would like to thank him for giving me the opportunity to work with him.

I have been out of action for awhile now, but am on the mend and was able to write a new horror story this week just in time for Halloween and get to do the vocals for the latest piece of music my good friend Dirk sent me around a month or so back now. I am hoping to be back in full of action from mid November to December as I am into the 4th week of my treatment next week to which is coming along well so far.

Johnny was born on October thirty one
when the moon was full and shone like a light
his face was deformed and his mind was deranged
his mother cast him off out of her site

She put him in a bag and left him for dead
in a woodland for the past 18 years he lied
his bones had grown as he rose to seek his revenge
found his mother and plucked out her eyes

You can't see me now Johnny cries out
raises his sickle and cuts off her head
(and leaves her for dead)

Johnny the reaper was soon to be known
a collector of skulls hung in his woodland home
he would hang them on trees on a halloween night
a keeper a reaper this man made of bone 

His scythe will cut through you
if he ever sees you
so don't give him a chance
deaths just a glance

Johnny often prowled the streets late at night
knocking on doors playing trick or treat
the people who answered got such a terrible fright
and always felt the end of his scythe

He terrorised the streets in his local town
to the law it became a major concern
especially as the stories that came in were so far out 
decapitated bodies were lying everywhere

Chief Inspector Perkins was soon to head the case
with a forty strong able bodied crew
he had posters put up all over the place
though with Johnny's description they never really had a clue
(No they never)

Johnny the reaper may never reap what he sewn
an ultimate killer this man made of bone
he showed no remorse for his victims he left dead 
adding to his collection, a large number of heads

Now as the search went on lead by Perkins and his men
they could not even find a head or a clue
but as they widened their search into cumberstone woods
 they soon came across quite a few

They sealed off the site and waited till night
to catch him red handed at his game
hoping to catch Johnny and put an end to his plight
was perkins and his men's real aim

Johnny showed up and his blade was lit up
from the reflection shining from the full moon
he soon put an end to the forty strong men
and with perkins he made forty two

There are many tales of Johnny that have never been told
some were left better unsaid
(better left alone to keep your head)

Johnny the reaper will always be known
all those who came across him never came home
he kept his blade razor sharp to take off their heads
left them decapitated left them for dead 


His scythe will cut through you
if he ever sees you
so don't give him a chance
deaths just a glance
He sleeps in the daytime 
and comes out at night
he will even take off your head
to make your halloween a deadly fright

A Stranger Living in a Ghost Town is the result of a collaboration of taking part in this year's SC Tombola. I was well pleased when I seen I had been drawn with my good friend Peter Bennborn especially as I had heard Peter's fine work both as a great musician and producer before, to which he does pretty much a top job of, and is involved in many projects on the cloud.

It did not take Peter long to throw some ideas at me and he presented me with a couple of ideas, and the backdrop of music he sent to me on this one caught my attention enough to inspire me to work out a title and some lyrics for it.

Lee Lucas & Peter Bennborn - A Stranger Living in a Ghost Town (SC Tombola Collab)

I very much started out playing instruments very late in life, and spent much of my earlier days listening to it, rather than playing it. I am very much a self taught musician and regard my instruments very much like implements, tools or devices to write with, rather than being anything remotely near a good playing musician of any great technique. 

I guess I really got into instruments more back in 1994 when I got into my first band (though I did learn to play the Harmonica when I was 8 years old) it was around this time I wrote a song on the Guitar entitled Oldtime Street. The song is very much even today one that contains some of the finest lyrics I have ever written, and very much perhaps inspired me to carry on.

Though the band back in 1994 was a very short affair, it was not long after I got into a R&B band performing Rock & Blues in various pubs around my own town Birmingham. I was very much the lead singer in this outfit which lasted some 6 years. Though during these years the band had gone through several line up and name changes and came to a stop in 2001. I suppose it was a bit of relief in a sense, because it's quite easy to put a band together, but murder to keep everyone happy, and keep it going.

Even though I only really did Vocals and played my Harmonica in the band, I still found time now and then, for my guitar, and my keyboards at home, and I also contributed in a big way to our own compositions in the band.
