In recent years, the term “tech-house” has taken on a whole new direction that has swayed some considerable distance from its origins. One of the early protagonists of this much-misunderstood sub-genre is Asad Rzvi aka Silverlining. His nineties deep, groovey garage tinged house is nothing short of seminal and appearing first on OG labels such as Wiggle and Wrong, Asad set a template for what would become such a huge sound of current times. "When I picked records and songs for this mix I wanted to include a lot of tracks that are timeless and not trendy. Important tracks are in my arsenal of music. I don’t own CDJs so I did the mix on my 1200s. These songs kind of reflect the epitome of the sound in an underground party, from any era. I ended the mix with an old Get F*cked track, because I love that record, and it's perfect for closing out a party or a mix. Nathan Coles and I have been homies for over 20 years. I recorded the mix a few weeks before passed and it makes the mix mean something more to me than just doing a cool DJ mix. RIP Nathan Coles, I always share the gifts you gave us in the form of music, and you will live on thru the hundreds of songs."

Terry Francis first played the club on our launch night in 1999, and he’s been back to play hundreds of times since then.

As one of our two residents, for the last 17 years alongside Craig Richards he’s been at the very core of our Saturday night programming. Alongside our longstanding in-house team, it’s Terry and Craig who’ve helped shape our musical philosophy since the beginning. 

This is part of what made the Saturday night of last month’s reopening weekend so special. Following on from Stephane Ghenacia’s on point warm-up set with Room One already popping, Terry Francis stepped up to deliver what we can confidently say was one of the most compelling sets we’ve witnessed, ever. As we’re still looking back on this session fondly several weeks on, today we feel proud to unlock it from the archives for everyone to hear.

Still on their six-legged victory lap following the massive success of the Blessed EP, Tiga & The Martinez Brothers look to the outer limits of techno and beyond for the remixes. “Blessed was a baby born of friendship, and you don’t turn your baby over to some dude making ‘dark, atmospheric bangers' on Ableton. You take that baby, you put on her bonnet and you entrust her to some of the most successful men in the world so you can take your wife salsa dancing for once,” says Tiga. 

Longtime Turbo target Ricardo Villalobos delivers his personal magic on the remix of “Cleopatra." This is not the kind of everyday magic you’d find in a kind word from a stranger or the childlike wonder of a child. This is the good kind of magic.

Louis Vuitton Creative Director/Off-White mastermind Virgil Abloh, one of Time Magazine’s 100 Most Influential People in the World, was a big fan of “Blessed,” and turns in a remix that is closer to "future jazz” than Tiga would have accepted from anyone else on that list, except for maybe Hugh Jackman. Abloh also designed the artwork for the release, which depicts the fall of man as seen through the eyes of a jean jacket. 

“I speak for everyone at Turbo when I say we are delighted and honoured to bring these two friends and creative forces into the fold,” says Tiga. “Some people well tell you that hatred and divisiveness are the answers to society’s ills, but I respectfully disagree. It’s friendship that’s gonna see us through. If I can convince two of today’s leading cultural figures to roll up their sleeves and figure out my remix pack, imagine what I could do if given control of a small country. I don’t see any other labels making these kinds of claims, and to me that says a lot.”

We open the SPEICHER gates to Swedish export La Fleur. She’s been on a roll with consistent releases for Truesoul, her own Power Plant imprint plus last year’s collaboration with Sasha and an Essential Mix. La Fleur fulfils the difficult matrimony of bridging minimal-house percussion with deep emotive groove on “Tears”. In her own words "I wanted to create a feeling of melancholy, the dreamer wanted this dream to be true and then on waking up realized that it was all just a dream. Hence the vocal, washing my dreams away with tears."

Up next on Cali Lanauze's Opulence imprint, Puerto Rican talent Cerrot delivers a steaming three-tracker titled 'Proclamacio' which comes paired with two killer remixes from Maher Daniel and Cristi Cons.

Ahead of its release on June 17, Cerrot has handed over the latter of the two remixes. The Romanian's remix is a skulking and restrained cut with wispy vocals and bristling energy aimed at soundtracking drawn-out dancefloor excursions.

Currently based in Amsterdam, Lola is one of Ukraine’s sweetest exports in the scene, and understandably so: her consistent stream of DJ-mixes has earned her an impressive following through channels like RTS.fm and MixCult.

Today, Lola shares an exclusive mix for Trickpony. The 1-hour journey starts off with lush ambiances, all while slowly tripteasing us into grainier grooves and basslines. The second half of the mix dips its toes into more upfront and peak-time selections, once again showing off Lola’s diverse yet delicate style of track selection with long, smooth and elegant transitions.
