Jay Haze is one of the most respected figures in electronic music culture. With a diverse back catalogue of sounds that reflect an artist with boundless ideas and a global mentality, here Mr. Haze bestows a dynamic duo of cuts on Leftroom Records - from the epic disco funk of the a-side to a head-spinning slice of experimental jazz wizardry on the flip.

The Afro-Latin influences in 'Datafunk In Your Ears' shine through with the immediate tribal chorus that is juxtaposed with a stomping synth-laden, funk-ridden groove and acid bassline. Coming in at an epic twelve minutes, 'Datafunk In Your Ears' is set to entrance the party crowd at peak time with its spiraling odyssey of disco funk magic and is already
getting hammered by the likes of Matt Tolfrey and the Visionquest crew.

The improvised flow, discordant horns and rumbling bass drum of B-side 'Jazzy Head Tool' is a derailing experience as Jay continues to push the boundaries of his musical style. Reflecting his open ears and open mind, Jay is challenging expectations here but also paying tribute to experimental jazz and funk 'greats' such as Arthur Russell. As 'Jazzy Head Tool' progresses, subtle shades of tension and drama rise out of the madness as delicate strings, sporadic keys, deep robotic voices and broken beats fight it out in their own refined orchestral battle.

Jay Haze is an action man and one on a mission to make a difference in whichever way he can through the power of music and its fans. The passion that positively emanates from his every move comes across just as clearly in his music as through his bountiful charity work. With a multitude of experience as a DJ, producer, and label-owner (Tuning Spork/ Contexterrior), Jay has released genre-spanning records and remixes on dozens of labels under a variety of pseudonyms such as Funkpony (for BPitch, Get Physical and
Cocoon) and Sub Version (for Soul Jazz). The past few years has seen Jay the
philanthropist drive numerous successful music-led charity projects including Toys &amp; Needs across South America and Red Dot Relief - the dance community's way of supporting the Japanese Earthquake crisis. Unmoved by financial gains, the spirited artist gave away his last album 'Love=Evolution' for free. Jay now lives in Peru, South America where he is concentrating on making new music. 

'Datafunk...' will be the Leftroom release used at the Record Store Day Berlin, on Nov. 5th 2011, where it will be available exclusively on vinyl at a select shop in Berlin for one week.

Slamming in for exposure via Cassy’s commanding imprint Kwench Records is venerated DJ, producer and label chief Alex Arnout with a vitalising two-track EP.

Inspired by the rich house tracks dispatched by Danny Tenaglia’s Tribal America label in the mid ‘90s, the EP aims for nostalgia-grabbing gold and takes hold with ‘Afrofuturism’. Loaded with low-end grooves and mesmeric, spaced-out vocal hooks, it’s guaranteed to put dancers in the zone. ‘Riffin’ cuts in like a temptress, with an equally absorbing vocal hook and slamming drum loops for a satisfying payoff.

PREMIERE: DuBeats - If Ever (Soul of Hex Remix) [Music Is 4 Lovers]

Colombian duo DJ Fronter & Julian Collazos join forces for the ‘Tic Tac EP’, bringing three bumping house tracks to Jamie Jones’ Hottrax this March.

Leading the release is DJ Fronter’s ‘Tic Tac’, a skippy synth-led number which bubbles through wonky build-ups over squeaking low end. Following is the breaks influenced ‘Too Much’, which sees the pair looping warm basslines under a broken beat and low, soulful vocals.

‘Touch It’ utilises jagged percussion, stabby synthesis and filtered vocals for a slow-burning late-night jam, unwinding itself through a tension relieving breakdown.

Following releases on Hot Creations, Sola, and South Of Saturn, DJ Fronter links up with Julian Collazos of Stereo Productions, Material, as well as his own Duff Music label for their debut appearance on Hottrax. Marking their first-ever collaboration, the pair have delivered a diverse set of party starters for Jamie Jones’ celebrated imprint.

PREMIERE: DJ Fronter - Tic Tac [Hottrax]

Leftroom Records opened its doors in August of 2005 in Nottingham, England. The label is the creation of Matt Tolfrey (Owner). Musically, it was one of the first labels of its kind in the UK, showcasing the off centre sound of house, disco and techno.

Distributed now by Above Board, the first release surfaced for the label on the 5th of December 2005 and was entitled ‘The Extended Family EP’ encapsulating the spirit of Leftroom, a place where a core set of artists could grow and experiment with their sound. The Leftroom family consists of a few key artists including Laura Jones, Huxley, Gavin Herlihy, Sam Russo and Matt himself.

April 2006 saw the launch of Leftroom's sublabel, Leftroom Limited. Musically Leftroom Limited brings a new dimension to Leftroom as a whole, concentrating on anything that wobbles from straight up house, to techno and even the uplifting. The first ep for the sublabel was Tolfrey & Sylvester presents: Popeye-Spinach Disko, a slow brewing, techy, disco record, which came out the end of May 06 with many plaudits. 

With Matt being label owner he proved his A&R capabilities are pin-point in securing one of 2007’s biggest tracks, Ito & Star’s ‘Suduko Kid’ and one of 2008’s biggest crossover tracks, Rocha and Lewinger’s ‘Down Seq’. The summer of 2011 brought you Laura Jones's 'Love In Me' which was a global phenomenon, and Maceo Plex's remix of the same track was Leftroom's first no 1 overall seller on Beatport. In 2012 Kate Simko's 'Go On Then' featuring Jem Cooke stole all headlines, and the same year brought you Matt's debut artist album 'Word Of Mouth.' 

With new albums and mix compilations not to far away, and a whole host of new releases, Leftroom is sure to carry on where it left off which is delivering high quality, diverse dance music.
