For release number 6 we are delighted to welcome our good friend Citizen back to the W&O Street Tracks family and along with him a producer we've had our eye on for sometime, Joe Ashworth.

Kicking off the EP we have 'Situation', a deep tribal house track featuring vocalist Shona Carmen that evokes the spirit of legendary clubs such as NY's Sound Factory whilst still sounding totally fresh and original. Stripped back without any unnecessary frills or flourishes, it's a masterclass in soulful yet simultaneously jacking house music.

If the original had more than a touch of Manhattan to it, then the 'LDN Warehouse Dub' brings things right back home with a sound forged on smoke filled dance floors in the grimier districts of East London and in its hypnotic, metallic bass line a nod to the Bleep sound of a previous generation of warehouse fillers like Unique 3 and LFO.

Finally we finish things off with 'State' a tautly wound piece of underground house music, that gently ratchets up the tension over 4 minutes before the organ comes in and before you can say 'La Da Dee, La Da Day' lifts the track, and we'd put money on any crowds listening to it, up to a whole 'nother level.

With half a dozen releases now in our first year from the likes of Ejeca, Rhythm Operator, Squarehead, Chamboché and Waze & Odyssey, W&O Street Tracks has quickly established itself at the forefront of the UK’s ongoing house music renaissance.

Hot on the heels of her collaborative EP with Matt Tolfrey, ʻThe Same Pageʼ EP, Kate Simko makes her full solo debut on Londonʼs Leftroom imprint alongside the vocal talents of Jem Cooke and the remix might of John Tejada.

Chicagoʼs Kate Simko has hit her stride as a producer and DJ since her auspicious beginnings as part of Matthew Dearʼs Spectral Sound roster. Remixing Philip Glass, composing film scores, collaborating with Tevo Howard as Polyrhythmic, and increasingly on the radar of the world's top clubs via on-point DJ and Live/AV sets, Simkoʼs talents have been closely followed by Leftroom boss, Matt Tolfrey.  Tolfrey first invited Kate on board last fall with her remix of Laura Jones' smash hit "Love In Me;" then, after hearing the raw, acid-house inspired 'Kabuki Drop', Tolfrey signed the EP on sight and it's not hard to see why.  

Simkoʼs love of Daniel Bell/DBXʼs incredibly focused and classic use of sound shines through on ʻKabuki Dropʼ, where an uncluttered rhythm track boldly drives a perfectly formed array of creeping bleeps, atmospherics and lush pads.
Kateʼs old friend, John Tejada - an artist who has developed an enviable reputation for squeezing soul out of machines - treats ʻKabuki Dropʼ to an oozing makeover. An inspired choice for the task in hand, the lauded producer delivers the sort of immersive eloquence that few achieve.
The second half of this diverse EP is balanced by ʻGo On Thenʼ, a full vocal cut and dub version featuring the sultry, jazz-inflected talents of London-based Jem Cooke paired with delicate Rhodes, lazy fills and hazy keys that underpin a powerful dubbed bassline.

With plans to relocate to London in July, Kate's 'Kabuki Drop' EP is a heartfelt offering to Leftroom from this soon-to-be Chicago transplant.

DANNY GHOST - LOST IN THIS MOMENT MASTER

Leftroom Records opened its doors in August of 2005 in Nottingham, England. The label is the creation of Matt Tolfrey (Owner). Musically, it was one of the first labels of its kind in the UK, showcasing the off centre sound of house, disco and techno.

Distributed now by Above Board, the first release surfaced for the label on the 5th of December 2005 and was entitled ‘The Extended Family EP’ encapsulating the spirit of Leftroom, a place where a core set of artists could grow and experiment with their sound. The Leftroom family consists of a few key artists including Laura Jones, Huxley, Gavin Herlihy, Sam Russo and Matt himself.

April 2006 saw the launch of Leftroom's sublabel, Leftroom Limited. Musically Leftroom Limited brings a new dimension to Leftroom as a whole, concentrating on anything that wobbles from straight up house, to techno and even the uplifting. The first ep for the sublabel was Tolfrey & Sylvester presents: Popeye-Spinach Disko, a slow brewing, techy, disco record, which came out the end of May 06 with many plaudits. 

With Matt being label owner he proved his A&R capabilities are pin-point in securing one of 2007’s biggest tracks, Ito & Star’s ‘Suduko Kid’ and one of 2008’s biggest crossover tracks, Rocha and Lewinger’s ‘Down Seq’. The summer of 2011 brought you Laura Jones's 'Love In Me' which was a global phenomenon, and Maceo Plex's remix of the same track was Leftroom's first no 1 overall seller on Beatport. In 2012 Kate Simko's 'Go On Then' featuring Jem Cooke stole all headlines, and the same year brought you Matt's debut artist album 'Word Of Mouth.' 

With new albums and mix compilations not to far away, and a whole host of new releases, Leftroom is sure to carry on where it left off which is delivering high quality, diverse dance music.
