Dripping from the walls, stains the ceiling, so thick yr mired in it. You move w/ the delicate grace of a dinosaur. Catch a wave when the meteor hits & make friends w/ the undertow. You can’t go kicking in doors you don’t want closed. You can’t go kicking in doors expecting a hello. This wrecking ball mentality is getting so old.

Gnashing teeth, we meet again. Downtown Root Canal City is no place for hanging out & holding hands. We forget ourselves & kiss, indiscriminate ‘til we’re thrusting flesh into sexes. Hot breath, casting hexes. Black helicopters in the air tonight. Searchlights, orders to kill on sight. Black crocodiles in the sewers tonight. Scaly jaws reach up to take a bite. Which beast do you trust? Is it money, power or lust? Which deals did you cut to save yr neck from the chopping block? How’s that working out for you? Fucking or getting fucked? I’m slipping down a precipitous sunset towards the open maw of a night that wants to swallow me whole, lick its lips & move on to the next. The thing that scares me most is the thought that I may like it. I, I should have noticed the soft press of, the sharp sting of the jaws of this town clamp down around me, but I was too distracted by the sweet taste to see molars & incisors closing in about me.

Terror, the word hangs poised above you like a guillotine. Such a keen blade. What we give up to keep the hands away, to keep the veil unlifted (the Tree of Knowledge has a snake @ its base, mind the flock for the wolf @ the gates. Capture or kill). What we don’t hear when we keep our ears covered (draw in the details but forget the face, fear the fruit but desire the taste. Capture or kill). Fear is the new cash crop we’re sowing. A bitter harvest for mouths that don’t need feeding. Let the fields go to seed. Resistance? Blacklisted. Dissidents all blacklisted. No new McCarthy.

Hold that paper bag up to my lips, I'm passing out. Slip that plastic bag
over my head. Oh, oxygen! Such a dirty tryst, blood on my neck like a goddamn vampire's kiss has left me draped in red velvet. You can't dress up naked opportunity. It’s blackout time again! Strip the shelves bare. Let’s not confuse an albatross w/ a vulture, scavenger. A weight on my back. “Congratulations on yr return engagement.” Dan Backslide smiles, happy. “We’re so excited to have you singing lead for the New Temptations.” Oh no, what have I contracted? The end result of sticking a finger in every crack I see. Some walls have teeth. & when I give my acceptance speech I have to thank Jonny Confidence & the asshole convention he calls friends; I’ve lost a lot of gems but picked up a few bad pennies instead. Zip the body bag over my head, I’m rubbed out.
