Codify depicts the gradual loss of self and identity; the control that we have over our own decisions, choices and lives ultimately. It speaks to how the sort of tech based society that we live in is not even hiding the fact that it's manipulating and controlling representation of ourselves and what we should find important so that our own autonomy is blatantly and unashamedly diminished.

Deep In The Holy Water' in the old days would be the hidden track on the album. Colin wrote the tune after I said I'd like to have a surf song about surfing the Severn Bore. in a crazy coincidence our pal Jane's Granda mad Jack Churchill(no relation) 1955 surfed the 'Severn Bore' in Gloucestershire on a homemade 14 foot surfboard. and it coincided at the time with the scandal that had hit the news that the majority of England's rivers are polluted, only 14% meet the standards of a "good ecological status. Its not perfect in Scotland but its better and one of the few brags we've got is that our water tastes better, but i dont want our English family literally swimming in shit when they're at the beach. I was listening to the Blindboy Podcast at the time about Irish Godesses and the reverence that Clíodhna the Celtic goddess of the sea, with a passion and love, and deep beauty had and how our old myths and religions meant there was a deep devine respect for nature that has been lost over the years. Where as before water was worshipped and revered, now it is sadly polluted. Look what happened to The Black Sea for evidence of why we shouldn't mess with our life giving bodies of water. It experienced unprecedented degradation in the 1990s causing a large dead zone. The main sources of nutrients were runoff from the agricultural sector (fertilizers and livestock waste) as well as domestic and industrial wastes. You can go a month without food,  but you can't survive 3 days without water. The oceanographer Helen Czerski's was on the brilliant 6 Music Cerys Matthews  show talking about her latest research, measuring ocean breathing. All of these different bits of inspiration led to the lyrics. It's time we got back to respecting our water and what we put into them and oh aye 'Deep In The Holy Water' is a banging tune to surf or dance to regardless of the meaning.

Stance

I thought it would be interesting to write a song celebrating/acknowledging good times. The catalyst for the song was a positive end-of-something song. A lot of endings are often marked by bitterness. The song is part tongue-in-cheek because although the song is called “Good Times” ultimately the song is about someone I had to pull away from as she was a bit mixed up. It’s also partially about the city of Madrid which is a place I’ve had a love/hate relationship with down through the years.  The city has been calling me back in recent times so I decided to shoot the video there. When I wrote the song, I was thinking of previous Good Times in my life I’ve had there (and the not so good times) but with time I’ve been able to reignite the love I had for the city. We had together so I’m both celebrating those good times albeit with a sense of perspective and loss of something. The song is about being good together but the relationship was blowing hot n’ cold like the weather.
