The cover art, photographed by Glasgow based Lithuanian photographer Greta Kalva, centres around Greek & Roman deity Apollo and his muses Here. The concept explores the beauty of femininity in masculinity, emulating the poses seen in traditional Greek statues.

Scotland’s own Leif Coffield’s new track ‘monsta-san’ is dark, weird, and wonderfully fresh

Leif Coffield is a 24-year-old singer-songwriter and producer who is emerging from the shadows with a unique take on gothic electro-pop. Now, with the release of ‘monsta-san’ - his most ambitious track to date - Coffield confirms himself as undoubtedly one of the most exciting and inspired young names around.

Originally from East Kilbride, Coffield moved to Chapelton in South Lanarkshire when he was 18, where he lived in a run-down caravan for three years. It was here he found his voice which, like his surroundings, he describes as, “cold, dark and broken.” This morbid environment is reflected in his new single, ‘monsta-san’.

Driven by a sinister spirit reminiscent of Billie Eilish, ‘monsta-san’ stomps and clangs along beneath Coffield’s hushed, gloomy vocals. The track then bursts into a ghoulish, chanted earworm of a chorus.

Coffield sings of “monsters under his bed,” in a way that’s eerily breezy, yet simultaneously uneasy. Beguiling the listener with a contagious drum-beat, the track gently beckons, before a frenzied crescendo spirals into a surreal, chaotic electro-pop dreamscape.

The twists and turns of ‘monsta-san’ reflect Coffield’s own journey, from skateboarder, turned photographer, turned producer. This is a young Scottish talent with a real story to share, and a unique way of telling it. ’monsta -san’ is fresh, dangerous, wonderfully weird, and is guaranteed to linger on your mind long after the last notes have rung out.

Leif Coffield delves into a doomed, dystopian romance in his forthcoming single, bloodstains & love notes

Leif Coffield’s new single is a sonic exploration of toxicity and feelings of entrapment, es-tablishing the 24-year-old as one of the most authentic and exciting young artists around.

The follow-up to monsta-san - a track hailed by BBC Radio Scotland’s Vic Galloway as “a lovely little self-produced pop nugget with elements of indie, 80’s pop and a bit of reggae” - bloodstains & love notes is every bit as ambitious, unpredictable and inimitably dark as you would expect.

Inspired by “feelings of heartbreak, self-hatred and worthlessness,” the new single creeps under your skin as sinister, synthesised vocals race against a relentless ticking. “Look around, can you say what you see, I wanna know if they’re following me,” Leif whispers, as distorted synths and strings carry the track until the clock stops, and time runs out.

Leif’s music acts as an electro-infused, bass-heavy bridge into a gothic dreamland that’s beautiful; woozy; and heart-wrenchingly angst-ridden, all at once.

With tangible influences from across the musical spectrum, including Bon Iver, Kanye West and Billie Eilish, Leif Coffield refuses to be categorised into one genre or style.
