Break Free!

SOUNDSHOCK is back to conclude the FM FUNK trilogy. FM FUNK NIRVANA!! brings you 16 new tracks by 19 uniquely talented musicians, from four different continents, using an arsenal of 17 different hardware and software FM synthesizers. 

Although this release marks the end of the series, our hope is that we’ve inspired listeners and musicians enough to carry our message further, and to keep reinventing FM sounds for decades to come! "That is", in the words of Tsuyoshi Shimokura, "not a sad thing." No indeed; rather, we believe this calls for celebration: let’s get it started!

Kirby's Friendship Fantasy - Icing Island

From my upcoming album, Return to Aloha. Part of the Capel series of albums. This is one of the variants of the "fight" theme from it. I needed to do a couple because it's going to be a pretty big album, so instead of just having one big "showdown" song at the end, I wanted to have a few for various conflicts throughout. This particular one includes bits of "Lost Girl." There's a few things I'd like to fix on this before the album comes out. (Shooting for late spring/early summer with this one.)

Clouded Moonlit Rendezvous

This one was interesting... I wanted to fuse the sound of an RPG song (read: I've been marathoning the hell out of the Suikoden series again,) with the 80s sounds of Capelspace (since this song is from Return to  Aloha.) In the end, I'm pretty happy with it, even though it's a lot different than the rest of the album! This is the song for when Capel and her friends (or whoever is unlucky enough to be roped into one of her misadventures) explore caves.
Keen listeners will recognize this one from the original Planet Aloha album.

Caver

Another HardSpeed song here! This is the battle theme for the Tsu'ghui, a mysterious race of killer clones. It seems like they're being controlled by someone.
The beginning of HardSpeed's narrative follows a squad of Tsu'ghui on a routine mission that turns out to be anything but. I wanted their battle theme to differ heavily from the normal battle theme.

This one has to do with more thoughtful, pensive moments for the characters -- specifically Capel, the main character. Capel barely even understands how people work, and yet she desperately wants to live among them. Every step forward is two steps back. Sometimes, she isn't even sure it's worth it to keep trying.

Mostly done using the Korg Wavestation. I started out trying to decipher the patterns one of the presets had, and ended up reproducing the sounds manually instead. From there, the rest of the song formed. :V

Steady Lights

This will be the first track on my upcoming album, HardSpeed. It serves as the opening text crawl more or less. It has a little more orchestral flair than most of the other HardSpeed music. Part of this is due to the main character of this album, Sydney, being a cello player. (Don't worry, Capel still appears.)
I've been working on something big-ish behind the scenes related to HardSpeed as a whole, and this song was definitely a good step in getting it started. For now, expect a new album out sometime this summer!
