Hi! I made this song to try out a downbeat bluesy and fragile vocal style to match some heartbreak lyrics. It still feels incomplete somehow. There was a suggestion that I could put more space and instrumentation between the different parts and so I thought I'd put it out there to see what ideas you might have.

Jim first picked up the original instrumental and created a most excellent and hot electric guitar part for it. We asked Stella if she could mix it altogether and we were lucky she said yes because she did it so brilliantly that I'm still trying to pick my jaw off the floor.  :)

A few summers ago I found myself sitting on the beach at Lulworth Cove in Dorset http://www.lulworthonline.co.uk, whiling away the afternoon and enjoying the sun. The beach there is made up of pretty pebbles and so to amuse myself, I started looking for ones with smiley faces on them.  I found a few but they were mostly one eyed, like the group in the photo. They made me smile, especially when they were huddled close together... like a family posing for a holiday snap. This photo was taken on a particularly lovely day this summer on Branscombe Beach, Devon.

Hi Soundcloud friends. This poem is a stream of consciousness thing which I wrote it in response to the trouble I experienced with my ears for a year. I'm pleased to say that the mad drummer has now disappeared. The new occasional guest is a high-pitched whistle which I think is the standard tinnitus sound…at least it seems quieter and more bearable.

Things happen in a second it seems
Or were they just biding their time unseen
As if by magic but the unwanted magic of this headphoned realm
as if by spells but accidental spells of the kitchen grounds
what I hear is no longer what I used to hear
all is mediated by a wall of string in my head unwound
one ear blocked and the other a high-pitched white noising

In my garden the blackbird marks his patch with his singing
To he who sings for the sheer joy of it, just for the hell of it,
for the just winging a bit
I hear you loud and clearly

I'd like to sit on top of a tree and mark my presence with a river of sound
Colour my ether with bells and limpid swells
I want nature to hear me shout out hey I exist here now in my garden patch

In the bushes around me raspberries wow lots of them 
and into my mouth they disappear
Don't bother checking for guardian earwigs, spiders and other vigorous bugs
Those protein-filled greeblies we squeemish misjudge
Nor beak mark shaped holes left by bluetit and little brown bird
No, be brave and eat, eat with all your enjoyment, girl

As the family upstairs fry their onion garlic ginger chilli mix
that wonderful double Delhi fix with my nose in its grip
adding the ground asafoetida, cumin, coriander and cardamom
the aroma rides the breeze like an arrogant god 
and I lap it up like summer rain, my face turned up with pleasure plain
what hands first shaped curry? what sounds could it measure?

The man in the chair he measures the pressure, the low blood kind
ears ringing, body wilting and unsettled mind kind
though, thank asparagus, the world doesn't spiral into white yet

I expect the family upstairs have a giant humming time-machine plugged in somewhere
It's that or possibly a washing machine stuck on the spin cycle
Its vibration sets off my left eardrum like a mad percussionist
Wake up! Wake up! It's carnival time! 
actually it's midnight, my bedtime.
Eustacia, what bargain must I strike with you?
Will you not clear your tubes and mend those faulty drums so that I may hear purely again?
My entreaties to the gods fall on silent ears, that is, if the gods have ears

Folk Acoustic - AIR OF REGRET - Leilani Roosman (feat. Riny Raijmakers)

Here's a little piece about one of my regular chores as a kid. My dad, the green fingered garden wizard, bless him, used to order a truckload of manure from the local chicken farm several times a year. The dogs would go nuts every time, running around carrying big brick sized chunks in their mouths and rolling around in it,  and inevitably it was my job to wash them afterwards. But first I had to chase them and catch them. Those of you who have dogs will know what I'm talking about. :) 

Big thank you to fabulous Johnny who couldn't get to the mike quick enough to sing the dawg.....and the bass part...and play the jaw harp...besides doing all the production and arrangement on this.

Some time ago, I came across Gus's cloud and really liked his style, favouriting this and that. Then one day, Gus left a comment on my song Ernesto, mentioning that after doing an internet search on the artist Ernesto Neto, he had found the 'strawberry heart' of my lyrics. So I replied to him, saying that he was the first to find it and that meant that he had won a prize. He would be a character in a song. So here we are. 

Gus's style here brings to my mind Tarantino films and also the Blues Brothers film.  Remember the girlfriend who keeps on trying to kill Jake throughout the film? This song is probably about her. Desperadoes on the run from the law, with their stalker girlfriends trailing not far behind.
