The Wound (revisited)

About the song- I was on a hike with my roommate and his dog a few days after my ex and I talked for the first time in nearly 9 months. It was not an ideal time to hear from her. Anyway, as we hiked this thought popped in my head, "do you ever think you could love me again?" I thought, "oh, I like that. But it's sort of cheesy." For whatever reason I thought it would be a great title for a Motown song. So, for the very first time in my life, I decided I wanted to write a specific type of a song- a Motown song. Though it's a solo acoustic song I was channeling "I'd Rather Go Blind," "These Arms," and "I Can't Help Myself" among others. The lyrics (which are below) are a little corny, a little cliche, but genuine, which is how I always perceived those songs. Plus I just wanted to put out a new song, enjoy! 

Written 5/8/20 and recorded 6/27/20 after a few drinks in Rob Fragnito's basement (@moonrabbitretreat on instagram). I wrote the song in about half an hour so I gave it just about that much time to record it. Art by my sister Juliana.

The story behind this album: I first started recording it in December of 2016 three months before I moved back to Boston. I thought we'd have enough time before I moved to finish but that (obviously) wasn't the case. So, as I returned to NJ I'd work on it here and there little by little. I have to say there was a point I completely forgot about these recordings as I gigged more and more and worked on new originals and covers for my sets. Well when the pandemic hit and everyone had some free time on their hands again my friend Rob Fragnito mixed me one of the songs as a birthday gift back in March. I was like "oh yea, that album!" So I started paying him to mix the songs and returned back to NJ in the summer and we had the time to finish the little bits that we hadn't got to and also rerecorded a few things. It's been just over four years now, but it's finally completely recorded and mixed! I have to say it isn't the complete vision I had for it in 2016, but I'm still extremely pleased with it. All these songs were written between 2011-2016 so it's a little weird to put out a "new" album of these songs, but the good thing is I realize I still love them! The title and album art, which is by Sarah Isaacs, are what I originally intended so I wasn't going to change them. In addition to recording and mixing the album, Rob also plays drums and keys on it.
