In the summer of 2023 we welcomed a young @hellosulci into the Bricolage family with her debut, "Before The Echo".

Eighteen months later she returns with her sophomore effort, "Four Chambers".

The evolution of Sulci is clear on this latest set of tracks. There's a new found maturity and musicality. The album pulls in a plethora of influences and uses them to provide us with some more dancefloor friendly tracks, whilst keeping that distinct mellow vibe that Sulci has become known for. It's quite the combination. Rippling and rolling funk, melded into cosy ambience amid laid back vocal experiments.

"Four Chambers" starts off on a serene plain before kicking through the gears as we go and a more open minded approach to production has allowed for the vibrant and colourful elements to bloom into full focus as the warm, shifting percussion falls around them. There's also a celestial feel throughout as the ethereal vocals wax and wane among the numerous weaved melodies and pads.

"The word vestige is rich in nuanced meaning: a trace, a reminder, a residue, a fragment or relic of something that has been left behind, an echo from the past perhaps. There’s a time-stretching quality to this idea and things may not always be as they seem in the moment. As the artist explains, “This album is influenced by the many thousands of connections we have with so many people throughout our lives, big and small. These connections may be ephemeral and transient, or they may be long lasting and fulfilling. That all depends on the nature of the relationships we create and sustain throughout life, but either way we display a bit of ourselves in each interaction we have and leave behind a trace. A remnant. A vestige.”

Across its eight tracks, this concept is explored and imagined in musical form to superb effect. The trademark Fragile X production techniques of swirling and enveloping swathes of sound punctuated by moments of calm for reflection are fully utilised to create a powerful, at times almost theatrical, depiction of our journey through life. Waves crash against the rocks, the shoreline is weather beaten and battered, but then the heavens open and the light pours down.

There's something timeless and mysterious, even mystical, about the audio landscapes of 'Vestige' as there is with life itself. This is also reflected in the track titles. At times the mood can be brooding – 'Anam Cara', for example – while at others tingling with excitement as with 'Welcome Home'. The beatless aesthetic of See Blue Audio is also well represented on tracks live 'Seva' and 'Roots and the Tree of Life'. As 'Veni Vidi Amavi' closes the album, we're left with a sense of the wonder of life and how we are all just microscopic parts in the grand cosmos of existence."

The heady, atmospheric and emotive-ridden beat-led excursion “Joy Meets Girl” takes the listeners down an insightful, introspective, erratic path, at first lilted by rolling sweet organic piano keys and shuffling rhythm patterns, washed in swelling deep pads, whilst edgy obsessive swirling resonances slowly build a shift into a bubbly, heart skipping interlude, fueled by tightly rattling percussions and heavy warbling bass lines, before glistening harp-like strings break the spell with sparkling comforting flurries, to disconnect back into the early soothing vibes.

The idea to base an EP on my home islands folklore began in 2018, during the folklore exhibit in Candy Gardens that I did attend. I produced these tunes in 2021 and 2022. I've wanted to release these but unsure if I wanted them on the main or side label. So this is the new catalogue for the lost and forgotten.

* track titles are in Guernsey French aka Guernésiais or locally refered to as Patios. Unfortunately a dying language thankfully you can take classes to learn it. That I hope to do when I eventually return home.
