Last September we launched a remix competition for the "Thought Patterns" track by The New Human.

It was the first track on his "Proximity Mantra" album. A minimalistic and stripped back opener that provided the perfect introduction to the emotional depth that runs throughout a release that was deeply personal for the producer.

Here, on this six track EP we first offer up the original track and the original remix by Fragile X before moving into the two remixes that were selected from the plethora of amazing entries we received.

First up, Jilk do what Jilk do best and completely dissect the original track before piecing it back together and stitching their signature offbeat patterns and audio palettes to create a wonderfully peculiar soundscape.

Next up, Human Concept breezes in gently with the perfect combo of downtempo bleeps and beats before effortlessly elevating the track to new realms with a blend of breaks and drum n bass.

The penultimate track sees a brand new track from Fragile X. "Solvitur Ambulando" is a track inspired by "Thought Patterns" and the "Proximity Mantra" album as a whole. Bringing together elements of ambient and electronica for dark and deep excursion.

The New Human himself closes out the release with his own reworked version of "Thought Patterns" titled "Final Thoughts" where he creates a denser, more layered version of the original. Completed with additional spring-like melodies and cleverly executed vocal samples of some of the feedback for the "Proximity Mantra" album. Namely, Kate Bosworth at Dark Train and Steph McColgan at Snack Mag / EWTPTH.

It's the ideal full stop on the EP and perfect way to enter 2025.

We hope you can find this EP to be an electronic refuge for tired minds.

"Anáil" translates as "breathe" in Gaelic.

All proceeds from "Anáil" will be donated to the Scottish Action for Mental Health platform.

EPISODE VII ‘PERCEPTION’
Lying on my bed, I try to fall asleep.
The complete darkness of my room envelops me like a
velvet shroud.
Outside, a winter storm freezes the city, but my home is so well-insulated and
heated that the temperature allows me to lie naked on the bed without feeling cold or hot.
And that is how I sleep.
Lying naked on the bed, which I know is the only piece of furniture in
the entire room.
There isn't even the slightest intrusion of light, neither from the windows,
covered with heavy curtains, nor from the door.
Not even sound breaches the perfect
insulation with which my house was built.
I know the wind howls outside, and the rain lashes
against the window's glass, but I hear nothing.
The silence is soft, like the feather pillow
under my head.
And yet, I cannot sleep.
Because I feel them.
I know they are here with me.
I feel their gazes penetrating my flesh.
They could touch me, but they don't.
They just stare with wide-open eyes in the complete darkness.
I feel there is one crouched at the headboard of the bed, leaning their head so far forward
that they might brush me with their face.
I know there is one at my feet, with hands stretched toward them, ready to touch them.
And there are others.
Many others, so many.
They stare at me through the walls, they smile, they study my every movement — I feel them
everywhere. But the silence is perfect.

If I were to turn on the light right now, the room would be completely empty.
Nothing moves, not even a breath of wind. But I know they are there. And that keeps me
from sleeping.
Fear? I wish. It would be so comforting to feel fear.
I could find solace in a blanket or listen to music to relax.
Unfortunately, what I feel is my heart beating hard, my blood rushing fast, my
lips trembling, my mouth in hypersalivation. It’s arousal.
Their gazes put me in a feverish state; I almost gasp with desire. For them to really touch
me. Feeling them is so sweet.
Such a sweet perception.

"Tell us about the mix you've recorded for us."

I recorded this in my living room with a xone92 and 3 xdj's. I mainly focused on atmospheric techno with a few acid and industrial elements. The only intent was to build toward a few higher energy tracks with a smooth, moving, and playful groove. Everything else came together nicely on the fly.
The theme of this mix is my usual MO: a hazy, psychedelic, and mysterious dreamscape within lush, natural terrain (forest, mountains, etc.) I also wanted to evoke recently gained confidence playing on bigger sound systems and gigs out of my hometown.

"Can you walk us through your creative process when approaching a new mix?" 

I spend a lot of time browsing bandcamp via labels, and then I listen to my bookmarks while commuting. I've only recently started using rekordbox to organize tracks. I group them together based on key detect with some attention to genre, energy level, and rhythm. That's about it. The rest was improvisational. I enjoy layering with 3+ decks on the spot when I catch phrases that speak to me.

“Layering with 3 decks on the spot is quite a skill. How do you decide which tracks to layer, and how does this element help shape your sound?”

I prepare based on how I feel about a collection of tracks in an environment. I have a lot of important feelings for music paired with scenery in the Bay Area. Moving through landscapes and interiors while listening to tracks leaves impressions of details like tone, intensity, rhythm, phrasing, etc.
Sometimes certain details stick with me, which leads me to tracks that have commonalities (or polarities depending on how chaotic I feel). I add a few tracks for tonal/rhythmic bridging, which leaves me with a body of elements and phrases for flexible layering. At a certain point, I just try to have fun juggling with whatever I bring to the decks. Looping helps ground me when I’m completely aimless.

“Could you tell us more about your involvement with Club Moniker? How did you connect with the crew, and what excites you most about working with them as an event series and label?”

I started Club Moniker a few years ago with a group of friends that I admire musically. We have a wide range of tastes which leads to unpredictable hilarity. We’re very much a “what if” kind of a crew which is exciting to me. That’s probably why we don’t have a distinct association with genre because we’re interested in many forms of expression. Obviously this leads to many tribulations, but I like the fact that it’s hard for us to conform to something indefinitely. The event series and label is a reflection of that.
