Recursions I

A couple of experiments here.  First is with my new field recorder, the second is with Ambisonic Rendering.  This is designed to be listened to with two speakers each placed around 20 degrees off of centerline (about the average for desktop speakers).  It uses Recursive Ambiophonic Crosstalk Elimination (google it)to create the illusion of a much wider soundfield than usual stereo. If you listen to it on headphones, not only will you not get the intended effect, but you may also experience really interesting auditory hallucinations after you take of the headphones.  I know I do.  The recording itself is from my backyard at midnight on New Years.  For those who haven't developed a refined distinction between explosions like I have over the past couple of years of living here, the more rhythmic sounds are usually indicative of gunfire, the rest are fireworks and explosives.  Happy New Years from Detroit!

Feast of the Box Feeders

This is the final project from my sound design class.  It's the sound track to a non-existent movie.  It details five minutes of a space battle from the point of view of someone waking up in a sick bay until they make it to an escape pod.  This was all made solely with an ARP2600 recorded in to ProTools LE, other than the voice, which was generated by the Mac onboard voice synthesis.
