In the tank
there was a long silver fish
swimming back and forth
in a lazy way
touching the glass with its fins

a silver arowana
over fifty years old.

in the future
I will cut out half my lung
and fill it with machinery
and I will go down, down, down
to the bottom of the sea

I will have a shell
and the water will not crush me
and I will move back and forth
like the silver arowana

I will see in the dark
these creatures 
who have never seen the light 
of day

their light is the light
from the ground
the cracks in the earth
glow red.

my second life
will be in a place
where others who survive with me
