Following on from last year’s album AurAA, Ellen Allien proudly unveils the first remix package, featuring four fresh takes on her original productions. AurAA was the techno queen’s ninth album i n as many years, as she continues to channel her creative energy into full-length releases, as well as various other projects. Staying active and positive through the difficulties of the past year, Ellen has maintained a constant presence, sharing live DJ sets from her balcony, or astonishing settings around Berlin, and a continuous flow of new music, supporting artists through her labels and keeping the spirit of our culture
alive.

With this first batch of AurAA remixes we get a sizzling selection of reinterpretations, straight out of the labs of some of the techno scene’s finest. This first installment kicks off with France-based Hadone, who takes on ‘ True Romantics’ adding a muscular l ayer of percussion along with gothic atmospherics and a sense of urgency that increases the dynamism ten-fold. Wait for the mind bending rave and grizzly bassline i n the latter part of the track, peak!

Next up we have Keith Carnal on the remix for ‘ Walking In The Dark’. Carnal spins this one on its head, breaking i t down and rebuilding i t from the ground up. A bulbous kick drum pounds and thuds as
numerous components come together i n a menagerie of rave-drenched neon stabs and melodies.

Matrixxman steps up after Carnal with his rework of ‘ I Can’t See You’, which pumps ominously, while a twisted vocal clip lurks i n the background. This minimal cut taps into your psyche with its insistent rhythm and swirling, deconstructed vocal which keeps threatening to emerge from the shadows…

Last up, ‘ Hello Planet Earth’ gets the Lady Starlight treatment. Prepare for a high-energy workout with exemplary production as she ambushes your cerebral cortex and surrounds i t with an entrancing
collection of sounds. Various l ayers of frequency shift and squirm around each other while the core of the track; the taut drums and bass, keep your body engaged and animated throughout.

It may come as a surprise to many, with so many landmark releases, that Ali ‘Dubfire’ Shirazinia hasn't yet released a totally solo album, until now. EVOLV is an 11-track visionary into the mind of the grammy award winning producer to be released on his long-standing label SCI+TEC. The first of 4 singles launch in July with ‘Dark Matter’ and ‘Dust & Gas’. Both tracks set a brooding atmosphere. The rougher percussion, and eerie lead in ‘Dark Matter’ is accompanied by a stripped back sound and glitchy vocals sitting in a spaced-out atmosphere in ‘Dust & Gas’. Its deep and minimal drum work is exceptional. The start of a sonically evolved journey for its listeners, this album is what many have waited for, with a few unexpected twists along the way.

Longtime Berghain resident, Figure Music founder and Berlin techno stalwart Len Faki is known both for his discerning, impeccable taste, so when we heard that he had agreed to remix French artist DNGLS for the enigmatic Anemone Music label, we were understandably enthused.

What Len ended up turning in, however, was much more than simply a remix, but, as the label calls it a “whole new realm of possibilities” – three different versions of DNGLS‘ “Hooly” – and we’ve got an exclusive listen below.

“When I heard the track first time, I instantly loved this special melody a lot,” Len tells us. “It was a pleasure to work on it, also because it is a little different than my other productions and a great experience to work in this direction. In the end, this is how the three different versions were formed, mirroring three different club moments. The first one is more like an energetic moment on the floor, while the ‘Tool’ is clubbier, more subtle, focused on the late night club moments. The ‘Beatless’ version is to listen to outside the club, or starting/ending the night.”

Boris - Can You Hear Me (Original Mix) [Alleanza]

Blue and Green is the combined production efforts of Josh Thompson AKA Bareskin and J. Wiltshire.  The two young producers both have history with Hypercolour; Wiltshire having recently dropped his ‘False Awakening’ single on the label, and Bareskin having contributed to both Hypercolour and Losing Suki imprints in the past.

Emotive territory is plundered on ‘The Wait’, a breakbeat flecked and pacey production that blends introspective vocals, dark guitar melodies and distorted bottom end with refreshing results.

Alan Fitzpatrick, picks up the mantle on the first of two remixes on this
single.  The Drumcode regular has been firing on all cylinders these last 12 months, with class remixes for Trus’me and dubspeeka and releases for Hotflush, Figure, Cocoon and Adam Beyer’s aforementioned Drumcode label. Fitzpatrick strips back the vocal and creates a peak time rolling Dub Mix in his own solid and inimitable style.

A second remix comes courtesy of techno psychonaut, A Sagittariun.  The Elastic Dreams boss follows up singles on HypeLTD and Secretsundaze and remixes for Permanent Vacation and Futureboogie with a distinctively warm and telepathically charged “Re-Dream”.

Appearing on the 20 year anniversary compilation from Drumcode, Truncate remixed "Miss You" off of my album, "Monoliths." Most remixes these days are completely different tracks from the original with almost zero material from the original. However, I think David did a great job of basically using only the source material actually 'remix' into it a completely new techno banger. People have been asking for this one for over a year, and it now it will finally be available.

Berlin-based Irish artist Hybrasil returns to Rekids with four murky techno cuts in ‘We Don’t Flip’.

Having made numerous appearances on Rekids including ‘Embers’, his debut album released last year, Hybrasil has become a core artist on Matt Edwards’s label when not releasing on his very own eponymous imprint. Reflecting on an amazingly creative 2019, at the start of this year Hybrasil set a new creative path for his future live shows, writing new music that received regular support from Radio Slave, which is what ultimately shaped this new four-track release.

‘We Don’t Flip’ opens the package with an immediate shadowy aesthetic before rattling kicks, off-beat hats and snappy snares lay down the groove as distorted vocal murmurs join delayed synths. ‘Hour Glass’ is next with its syncopated rhythm and quivering pads before ‘Ikigai’ takes things into wonkier territories courtesy of subtle melodies, metallic atmospherics and dubby chords. Tying everything together, ‘System H’ takes things up a notch, adding extra oomph to the package using powerful drums, rippling bass and deep stabs.
