I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember and cannot remember a day of not either singing or listening to music. I am self-taught when it comes to playing guitar but what I most enjoy is singing which I have been doing since around age 18. Now retired singing and playing the guitar is now just a hobby and something I do to help pass the time. Have always loved the sound of a Martin guitar. Currently been playing a Road Series DR S2 for about 6 years. Thanks for listening.

""Teach Your Children" is a song written by Graham Nash in 1968 when he was a member of the Hollies. Although it was never recorded by that group in a studio, the Hollies did record it live in 1983. After the song was initially recorded for the album Crosby, Stills & Nash in 1969, a much more enhanced version of the song was recorded for the album Déjà Vu by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, released in 1970. As a single, the song peaked at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts that year. On the Easy Listening chart, it peaked at No. 28. In Canada, "Teach Your Children" reached No. 8. Reviewing the song, Cash Box commented on the "incredible soft harmony luster" and "delicately composed material." Billboard called it "a smooth country-flavored ballad that should prove an even bigger hit on the charts [than 'Woodstock']." It won the 1979 Ivor Novello Award for Best Song Musically and Lyrically and achieved high chart positions in the UK, US and elsewhere. "Four Strong Winds" is a song written by Ian Tyson and recorded by Canadian folk duo Ian and Sylvia. Tyson has noted that he composed the song in about 20 minutes in his then manager Albert Grossman's New York apartment in 1962. A significant composition of the early 1960s folk revival, the song is a melancholy reflection on a failing romantic relationship. The singer expresses a desire for a possible reunion in a new place in the future ("You could meet me if I sent you down the fare") but acknowledges the likelihood that the relationship is over ("But our good times are all gone/And I'm bound for moving on ...").
The song has a clear Canadian context and subtext, including an explicit mention of the province Alberta as well as references to long, cold winters. In 2005, CBC Radio One listeners chose this song as the greatest Canadian song of all time on the program 50 Tracks: The Canadian Version. It is considered the unofficial anthem of Alberta.
Ian Tyson would recall "Four Strong Winds" as the first song he ever wrote and credits Bob Dylan with giving new impetus to Ian & Sylvia's career by inspiring the duo to follow his lead in writing "original folk songs":(Ian Tyson quote:)"We had to go in some direction, because we had used up all the real roots music from the Delta on north. Bob blazed the trail into the wilderness, into unknown territory." "Four Strong Winds"- Neil Young/ Ian Tyson (Cover)

"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" is a song written and performed by Bob Dylan and featured on his Bringing It All Back Home album, released on March 22, 1965, by Columbia Records. The song was recorded on January 15, 1965, with Dylan's acoustic guitar and harmonica and William E. Lee's bass guitar the only instrumentation. The lyrics were heavily influenced by Symbolist poetry and bid farewell to the titular "Baby Blue". There has been much speculation about the real life identity of "Baby Blue", with possibilities including Joan Baez, David Blue, Paul Clayton, Dylan's folk music audience, and even Dylan himself.
"It's All Over Now, Baby Blue" has been covered by Them, Baez and the Byrds. Them's version, released in 1966, influenced garage bands during the mid-'60s, and Beck later sampled it for his 1996 single "Jack-Ass". The Byrds recorded the song twice in 1965 as a possible follow-up single to "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "All I Really Want to Do", but neither recording was released in that form. "All Along the Watchtower"- Bob Dylan (Cover)

"Crazy Wind" by James McMurtry(1989) is a song about a woman who is left alone at home while her partner goes off to work. The lyrics describe the restlessness and boredom she feels as she watches him drive away, and the feelings of isolation that she experiences as he spends hours away from home. As she tries to find ways to occupy herself, the woman becomes increasingly frustrated with her lack of fulfillment and the mundane tasks she is left to complete. She longs for something more meaningful in her life. At the same time, the lyrics suggest that her partner is not an attentive or caring companion. He shows no interest in her feelings or desires, and takes her presence for granted. The chorus of the song emphasizes the sense of restlessness and dissatisfaction that the woman is feeling, as she struggles to find meaning and purpose in her life. Overall, "Crazy Wind" is a poignant and introspective song about the challenges of finding fulfillment in a relationship, and the loneliness that can come from feeling disconnected from the people around us". " Like many of the day’s biggest names, Cohen used to stay at The Chelsea Hotel in New York City while away from his home in Montreal. With so many artists passing through those hallowed halls, the hotel became a hotbed of inspiration.
Cohen would introduce this song in his live sets with a story about meeting a famous singer while at the Chelsea. Their meeting went on to develop into a sexual relationship—which he describes in the song.
“I wrote this for an American singer who died a while ago,” Cohen wrote in the notes of his Greatest Hits compilation. “She used to stay at Chelsea, too. I began it at a bar in a Polynesian restaurant in Miami in 1971 and finished it in Asmara, Ethiopia just before the throne was overturned. Ron Cornelius helped me with a chord change in an earlier version.”
It wasn’t until after her death that Cohen revealed the name of the singer: Janis Joplin. As the story goes, Joplin came to the hotel looking for Kris Kristofferson. When she joined Cohen in the elevator, the infamous casanova decided to tell Joplin that he was the Highwayman.
“She wasn’t looking for me, she was looking for Kris Kristofferson; I wasn’t looking for her, I was looking for Brigitte Bardot,” Cohen once told Rolling Stone. “But we fell into each other’s arms through some process of elimination.”
Their affair was brief. The next morning, Joplin went on to find Kristofferson and record arguably her biggest hit “Me and Bobby McGee.” The pair would only meet a handful of times after that.
“The last time I saw her was on 23rd Street,” he remembered in the same interview. “She said, ‘Hey man, you in town to read poetry for old ladies?’ That was her view of my career.”

"The River" is a song written and recorded by Bruce Springsteen, accompanied by the E Street Band, in 1979. The title track of his fifth album, it was a hit single in parts of Europe in 1981; reaching No.24 in Ireland, No. 25 in the Netherlands, and the top 10 in both Sweden and Norway. Its B-side was either "Independence Day" or "Ramrod", depending on the country of release.
"The River" was originally intended to be included on an earlier, one-record version of The River, tentatively called The Ties That Bind. The song itself was recorded at The Power Station in New York City on August 26 and 29, 1979.[ In the first live performance of the song in 1979, Springsteen cited the inspiration as "my brother-in-law and my sister". The 2012 biography Bruce by Peter Ames Carlin includes an interview with Springsteen's sister Ginny, in which she plainly states that the song is a precise description of her early life with her husband Mickey, to whom she is still married. "Wildfire" is a song written by Michael Murphey and Larry Cansler. It was originally recorded by Murphey, who had yet to add his middle name to his recorded work, and appears on his gold-plus 1975 album Blue Sky – Night Thunder.
Released in February 1975 as the album's lead single, "Wildfire" became Murphey's highest-charting pop hit in the United States. The somber story song hit No. 2 in Cash Box and No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in June 1975. In addition, it hit the top position of the Billboard Adult Contemporary chart, displacing "Love Will Keep Us Together".
The single continued to sell, eventually receiving platinum certification from the RIAA, signifying sales of over two million US copies. Members of the Western Writers of America chose it as one of the Top 100 Western songs of all time.
Murphey and Cansler co-wrote "Wildfire" in 1968, shortly after Murphey emerged as a solo artist. Earlier in the decade he had been part of a duo known as the Lewis & Clark Expedition in 1968 with singer-songwriter Boomer Castleman. They appeared and performed in an episode of the TV sitcom I Dream of Jeannie.
When Murphey rerecorded "Wildfire" for a new album in 1997, he was quoted by Billboard as saying that what many consider his signature song "broke my career wide open and, on some level, still keeps it fresh. Because that song appeals to kids, and always has, it's kept my career fresh."
In a 2008 interview, Murphey talked about the origins of the song and the context in which it was written. He was a third-year student at UCLA, working on a concept album for Kenny Rogers (The Ballad of Calico). The work was demanding, sometimes taking more than 20 hours a day. One night, he dreamed the song in its totality, writing it up in a few hours the next morning. He believes the song came to him from a story his grandfather told him when he was a little boy – a prominent Native American legend about a ghost horse. "Written by Stephen Stills, this was the first song Crosby, Stills & Nash played together, though there are at least three different stories about where CSN sang together for the first time. Was it in Cass Elliot's, Joni Mitchell's or John Sebastian's living room...?
From Johnny Rogan's book The Complete Guide To The Music of CSN&Y, it was at Joni Mitchell's Laurel Canyon home, located in Los Angeles' Hollywood Hills: "It was played during an impromptu singing session in Laurel Canyon. Nash witnessed the starting vocal bleb and songwriting power of the Crosby & Stills partnership. After listening to this song, he asked them to play the tune once more, then added a high harmony much to the amazement of everyone present."
Graham Nash agrees: "David and I believe that it was in Joni Mitchell's living room that we first sang together. Stephen and David wanted to show me a song that they had worked on in two part harmony. The song was 'You Don't Have to Cry' written by Stephen. They sang it once, I asked them to sing it again, they sang it a second time, I asked for another performance. On the third attempt I put my high harmony on and it sounded awesome. I knew in my heart that this was something I wanted to do for the next few years. The musical, social aspect of combining these three voices with the words that we had come up with was very exciting to all three of us. We knew that we could sing, that the sound was unique and that what we had to say was worth saying. And here we are 30 years later still doing it with all the energy of teen-agers!"
CSN biographer Dave Zimmer adds: "My theory is that it was Joni's Laurel Canyon house. I think they probably hung out in Cass Elliot's kitchen and John Sebastian's living room, and may have eventually blended voices there. But, from talking to Croz, Nash, Stills and Joni, I think the first time was at Joni's place, which she described to me once so colorfully as "a little house, almost like a tree house." >>
Stills started writing the song as a love letter to his long-distance love interest Judy Collins, who was committed to living in New York to grow her career and pursue psychotherapy for issues connected to her alcoholism. Stills wrote "You Don't Have to Cry" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" to try to convince her to come live with him in California. "Neil Young’s “Harvest Moon” is a peaceful masterpiece about dancing with a lover under the light of a full moon. Coming later in his career, “Harvest Moon” was released in 1992 as the first single from his album of the same name.
The lyrics to “Harvest Moon” call upon a relaxing late summer evening, with Neil’s quietly-sung vocals setting the scene over a calming musical backdrop (no crunchy Old Black tones here). We picture a bright orange moon hung high in the sky, with a comfortable breeze blowing in our hair as we twist and turn with this special lover.
“Because I’m still in love with you, I want to see you dance again,” Young sings, “Because I’m still in love with you, on this harvest moon.”
This image of the harvest moon brings with it the idea of changing seasons, and the passing of time. Neil indulges in this image throughout the song, even using the moon as a metaphor for getting older: “But now it’s gettin’ late, and the moon is climbin’ high.”
It is assumed that Neil Young wrote “Harvest Moon” about his then-wife, Pegi, whom he was married to from 1978 to 2014. "Going to California" is a ballad recorded by the English rock band Led Zeppelin. It was released on their untitled fourth album in 1971.
In 2012, Rolling Stone ranked "Going to California" number 11 on their list of the 40 greatest Led Zeppelin songs of all time.
The song started out as a song about Californian earthquakes and when Jimmy Page, audio engineer Andy Johns and band manager Peter Grant travelled to Los Angeles to mix Led Zeppelin IV, they coincidentally experienced a minor earthquake. At this point it was known as "Guide to California".
According to music writer Nick DeRiso, Joni Mitchell also inspired the song: "Plant makes a clear reference to 'I Had a King', the opening song from Mitchell's debut album, 1968's Song to a Seagull: 'To find a queen without a king', he quietly offers in the final verse. "They say she plays guitar, cries and sings." In an interview for Spin magazine, Plant admitted that it "might be a bit embarrassing at times lyrically, but it did sum up a period of my life when I was 22."       Wikipedia

I believe that most everyone has felt these feelings when being in love including myself. This has always been my favorite song from Elliot. I present to you my own version of this beautiful song.

"The song "Everything Reminds Me of Her" by Elliott Smith explores the lingering presence of a past love and the profound impact that this person still has on the narrator's life.

"The song "♡ (Human Heart)" by Coldplay, We Are King & Jacob Collier is about the vulnerability and fragility of the human heart, and how it can easily be broken or hurt. The song highlights the differences in the ways that boys and girls tend to deal with their emotions, with boys often trying to hide their feelings while girls wear their hearts on their sleeves.
The lyrics express the wish that the human heart wasn't so susceptible to pain and sadness. The line "I wish it didn't run away, I wish it didn't fall apart" speaks to the desire for emotional stability and resilience. "No One's Gonna Love You" is a song by American rock group Band of Horses. It was released in February 2008 as the second single from their second album Cease to Begin. In February 2011, three years after the single's original release, the song charted in Denmark. This tune was my introduction to Tyler's music several years ago. As a folk artist this is the kind of song I just love to sing.
"Timothy Tyler Childers born June 21, 1991) is an American singer and songwriter. His music is a mix of neotraditional country, bluegrass, and folk. He released his breakout studio album Purgatory in August 2017. Childers has released six studio albums and a number of EPs and singles.
Tyler Childers was born and raised in Lawrence County, Kentucky. His father worked in the coal industry and his mother is a nurse. He learned to sing in church where he sang in the church choir. He started to play guitar and write songs when he was around 13. He attended Lawrence County High School until he transferred to nearby Paintsville, in Johnson County, Kentucky, from which he graduated in 2009. Fellow country musicians Chris Stapleton (Staffordsville), Loretta Lynn (Butcher Hollow), and Crystal Gayle also hail from Johnson County, while Sturgill Simpson, a known acquaintance of Childers’, hails from nearby Jackson, Breathitt County." "The Fleet Foxes album, Helplessness Blues, is a masterpiece, and if you’ve never listened to it the album in full, you really should. However, as with any good album, some of the most beautiful songs can often get overlooked. “Blue Spotted Tail” is one of those.
“Blue Spotted Tail” is a simple song with simple lyrics and just a tenderly finger-picked acoustic guitar accompanying Robin Pecknold’s voice. The entire song consists of just some questions with no answers: “Why in the night sky are lights hung / Why is the earth moving round the sun?” It’s sang like a lullaby. Some of these questions, such as the one in the chorus, “Why is life made only for to end,” could send people into a deep existential torment. It’s a song Pecknold wrote to explain his agnosticism, inspired by what Carl Sagan wrote in his book, “Pale Blue Dot.” But there’s something so calming and soothing about the Fleet Foxes song. Twice through the song he stops singing and just hums, internalizing the tune. He knows he’ll keep these questions until the day that he dies, and that’s no longer a problem for him." "Many songs romanticize the road, playing up the lure of both the journey and the destination. “I And Love And You” by The Avett Brothers takes a different tack, examining what pushes one to leave in the first place while ruminating on the chances missed with those left behind.
The song proved crucial for The Avett Brothers, as it kicked off their time as major label artists in 2009 by serving as the title track, opening song and lead single of the album they made with producer Rick Rubin. As Scott Avett told American Songwriter, the move to the new recording digs was a bit unnerving until Rubin put them at ease.
“We were nervous going in,” he remembers. “I think there was a little reservation about, ‘Would we be changed?’ There’s sort of this mythological abyss that people sometimes go into on major labels. The context of the creation of “I And Love And You” was that Avett had recently immersed himself in the music of Townes Van Zandt. “There was something very hopeless and sad-sounding about it, but I always felt there was a redemptive quality to it,” he says of Van Zandt’s work. “I felt like there was a dark hope thing to it. As sad as Townes would sound, it always felt there was still something very precious and bright about him.
“’I And Love And You’ was something where I was sitting at the piano, living with those melodies from Townes. And I was just writing endless verses. There was a melody but there was no chorus. There was no point in any type of structure. I never thought once of that song having a commercial value of any sort. Those lyrics came from thinking about a relationship with a family member, but not a wife or husband. It came from a father or mother and son relationship and the difficulty of being able to tell them, ‘I love you."
