This was a request from a Soundcloud  member "Jay" Richsoundz.......
"Neil Young's "Mansion on the Hill" is a poignant song that delves into the themes of longing, nostalgia, and the pursuit of the American dream. Released in 1990 as part of the album "Ragged Glory," this track showcases Young's unique ability to craft lyrics that evoke deep emotions."
Neil recorded this tune with electric guitar. I suppose if he had did an unplugged version it may sound something like this.

"Neil Young’s brilliant original ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’ was born out of sincerity and heartbreak. A touching tribute to the pitfalls of love and relationships, lyrically the song is critical, and the concise account of love that the title provides us with is a testament to just how perceptive Neil Young is as a man and songwriter.
The third track on his third solo studio album, After the Gold Rush, ‘Only Love Can Break Your Heart’, is a folk-rock ballad of the highest order. However, given just how personal but universal the song’s message is, you’d be forgiven for thinking the song to be wholly autobiographical.
seemingly worn down by the number of questions regarding the song’s origins, Young did eventually concede that the song was about Nash and Mitchell. The track stemmed from the period where each component of CSNY was struggling with significant interpersonal problems, such as the death of David Crosby’s girlfriend Christine Hinton in a tragic car accident, and where the negative effects of hedonism were starting to wear the group down, eroding the rock at the center of the group." Only Love Can Break Your Heart - Neil Young  (Cover)

" The track confronts the entanglements of the habitual mind and the overwhelming nature of scrutiny.  “Don't you understand? / Your mind is not your friend again / It takes you by the hand/ And leaves you nowhere.

The song emerged during a period of writer’s block for Berninger – a challenge he partially overcame with the help of Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein.  “When I feel stuck, I’ll often grab a book off the shelf just to get some words in my head, and the first two pages of Frankenstein ended up triggering ‘Your Mind Is Not Your Friend', Berninger recalls.  “The book starts off with the narrator on a voyage near the Arctic Circle, and that image of being adrift helped me to write about feeling disconnected and lost and lacking in purpose.  Once I started confronting that strange, blurry panic of not having ideas, everything began to crack open a bit.” 

In recognition of the song’s mental health theme, The National is making a donation to TinyChanges.org, the charity established in the memory of Frightened Rabbit lead singer Scott Hutchinson by his family.  “Scott made tiny changes that had a big impact,” they write on the charity’s website.  “His honesty and openness about his own mental health inspired people from all walks of life.”       4AD

A new composition.. With a theme related to what I already knew about my passion for music, but also what I learned about helping others.

As the sun sets low in my little town

But the future was not so clear

I had one passion, music it was
But what to do what to do with that
The path was not clear

One day dad came with a question in his eyes
"Okay son, what are you going to do now?"
His words struck a chord, but no clear answer
To get a job I suppose

I took a moment to pause and reflect
Dad said I have a job for you
Music in my heart, but money was the need
But helping those children, I found myself

Dreamer

My childhood and life long time friend Pat said he wrote this song but it been sitting around for awhile as he did not like the guitar chords he made. He asked me for help as we say "That's what friends are for". Pat wrote this song for his daddy. He wrote some wonderful lyrics and i could feel the love he had for his father in his  heart as I sang this song for him. I hope you all enjoy.

Daddy was a PA coalminer from 55-98
Out in the driveway, warming up the Pontiac, while hittin minus 8
He’d walk from the backdoor headin to work, seems like only yesterday
Pick up Timmy, his carpool buddy, every other day
Every day he came with a smile on his face
He’d look back at me and say


Wen you’ve been in a dark place, the sun shines extra bright
The birds sing louder, and the smell of the flowers, 
And the moon lights up the night
Laughter is sweeter, and your life couldn’t have been finer

Lakeside

This song from Neil will not be familiar to most. From an LP called "For in the Road" (2009).
The lyrics really resonated with me  based on how I have been feeling as a citizen of the US the last several months. The tone seems to fit with my my most recent original composition called "Bravery".

A new composition that came to me from a book I have been reding called "Man and His Symbols" by Carl Jung.

The Wildest Dreams

I have enjoyed music for as long as I can remember and cannot remember a day of not either singing or listening to music. I am self-taught when it comes to playing guitar but what I most enjoy is singing which I have been doing since around age 18. Now retired singing and playing the guitar is now just a hobby and something I do to help pass the time. Have always  loved the sound of a Martin guitar. Currently been playing a Road Series DR S2 for about 6 years. Thanks for listening. I also enjoy discovering the sounds of other talented musicians and singers here on SoundCloud.
